I'm putting the stereo back in my D1 after the heater core from hell install and I forgot which is which on the stereo amp plugs. Got one with a white tag and one with a red tag. Anybody know which one goes to the main and which one goes to the sub?

TIA

steve,i installed a blapunkt cd deck in my 95 and cannot remember which is which, old age setting in.but in the electrical troubleshooting manual there are diagrams of all the connectors, wire colors, etc.the factory connectors fit the back of the deck, but i had to move the wires into the proper places inside the connectors.not quite a plug and play but close.i also used an adaptor to cut the speaker output, this allowed me to use the factory amps, etc.good luck.

carter,i purchased the deck and the adaptor from crutchfield.the deck is a blapunkt munchen, and fit very well.even the oe rear support stud fit the deck, and lined up with the oe bracket perfect.elec connections as stated above were clean and easy.due to limited working space the speaker adaptor was somewhat of a pain to install. each speaker lead from the deck had to go into it,then the vehicle leads also had to go into it.i then cable tied the adaptor to the brace under the deck.the adaptor drops the speaker output so the factory amps are not damaged.the system has been working for two years this way.hope this helps, john

yes it does help John, thank you. You wouldn't by any chance remember how much this adapter cost?? Crutchfield doesn't have it listed, I guess it is one of those things you just have to call and ask for.

oh man, thanks a lot John. I've never really liked CD changers and really want one of the new ones that can play mp3 coded discs so that I can keep my whole music collection in my truck in one small CD folder. With the price of that adapter and the drops there have been on the mp3 heads lately I can probablly ebay my factory head and changer and break even. (plus no having to worry about the changer getting wet under there in the event of an offroad mishap :-))

So are you happy w/ the sound you get with that adapter??? It doesn't sound washed out or anything from decreasing the volume from the head's amp does it? (I'm some anal retentive audiophile or anything, just don't want it to sound like ass).

Thanks,
Carter

errr, one more question. I'm not a big car audio guy so excuse me if this is basic but it says it does 4 channels. I take that to say it can run 4 speakers. If this is correct what did you do about the tweeters and that stock pos sub??

carter, all the factory speakers work, sub included.the reason i needed that adaptor was due to the fact that the deck was a high power unit, able to power speakers without an external amp.so wanting to use the factory amps i needed to drop the power to pre amp levels.that is what the adaptor does, cuts the output to a pre amp level.check with crutchfield, but i think a deck that requires a seperate amp would not need this adaptor, the out put would be pre amp level.to answer your question, the sound is ok.the system sounds better than stock, the deck has better sound, and sound controls .i am planning to install new sub woofer speakers,in the door, aftermarkets are avialable.the subs are the only weakness right now.
