I have a nudge bar fitted to my 96 Disco. On the bar there are 2 eyelets, these are not strong enough for serious recovery . Has any one any pics or suggestions on where and what I should mount for attaching a snatchstrap hook? |

http://www.discountrovers.com/Specials/specials.html Scroll about half way down, those jate rings are seriously heavy duty and attach to your frame.. |

I get teased about it quite often, but I ran a 1/2" bolt through the unused hole for the power steering mount on the Right side of the truck and used this to attach a piece of big-assed chain. I have used it a few times (once to pull the truck onto a tow truck:-(, and once to be pulled up a steep hill. Yes, it looks ghettoe (Dan Quayle spelling school graduate), but as my biker friends say "Chrome don't get you home" and isn't gettin' home what recovery points are all about? Paul |

Jate rings are good. Shackle mounting brackets and a shackle work also. SG uses those single attachement points that rotate around. With the later two, make sure they are bolted to the frame or have a think bumper. Also make sure to use a backing plate. He's the shackle mounts http://www.pazoodle.com/2-1-03/crw_9261_std.jpg and here's, kinda hard to see, the other ones I can't remeber the name/manufat. of http://www.pazoodle.com/2-1-03/crw_9360_std.jpg In the background you can see just a shackle mounted on the tabs on an ARB bumper, which is another option. Here's the Jate rings on a RR, and a funny looking Australian in the foreground. http://www.pazoodle.com/2-1-03/crw_9343_std.jpg pwc |

Are the tabs on an ARB strong enough for the shackles? I've thought about using those on mine, but have wondered if they would be appropriate. jeff |

They're fairly tough, although not all that think. Wouldn't take a lot bend them if you were pulling from the side. Still, they are as think as the rest of the bumper. pwc |

I don't know if anyone has found anything to work with them but how about getting some rings or tow points on a Disco XD with the Aluminum skid plate there. Does anyone know of anything that will fit without removing the skid plate on an XD. thanks |

Front bumper. Or just drill through the skid plate. It's just metal, right? pwc |

In response to the ARB question, I have used the ARB recovery eyes may times. They work very good, in fact, too good..... Max T. |

Thanks all for your replies. I was recently at a 4WD show put on by a Landrover owner's club here in Australia. I missed the demo on recovery, but did see what could happen if one uses a 9,000 KG breaking strain Snatch strap on a non rated tow point, Guess what gave first?. The metal attaching point was repelled at great force and embedded it self quite deeply into the pulling vehicle's rear bumper. Image a human, instant death! One common recovery method in Australia is to use these "Elastic Bands" to retrieve stuck Vehicles as it's quicker than winching. ( It more than one vehicle is involved.) Seeing what can happen has made me a little Paranoid to say the least. |

This scares me. http://www.yican.com.au/ADR/ADRMain.htm I have visions of my front axle leaving the comfort of the chassis. The psuedo-science maybe sound but my intuition is un-nerved. Any views? PS Bear in mind that this device is being used with an energy storing "snatch strap" and the forces as described by the previous poster exceed normal winching forces. Mahn |

Why would you go to the axle and not the frame? That just seems like a bad idea. What's there to break on the frame? Well, nothing but the frame. What's there to break on the axle? Well, let's see; shocks, springs, brakelines, driveshaft, etc...) Also, I like that one guy has a snorkle but falied to have good recovery points. At least he looks good. pwc |

It seems like with ADR all the recovery force is appied to two 16 mm bolts and your front radius arms. I think that the frame is way stronger (what's the sheer rating for 16 mm bolts?). |

ADR!I don't think so! In Australia there a deserts 1000 miles from nowhere, ripping the front axle off would involve one hell of a walk home. |

I've got the jate rings on my XD. There is a spacer in between the plate mounting and frame, I removed that piece, put the jate rings in there and filled in the space with washers. Works fine. I'll see if I can get a pic posted. |
