the RR classic (80000 miles) has seem to developed a sputter... its coming from the passenger side. the noise is only audible when the truck is accelerating or under load. i looked around and i cant find an cracks or leaks. the noise is also most promiment in the 2000-3000 rpm range. last weekend i went 'wheeling and got stuck in some snow and i was thinking maybe i could have cracked something due to the truck being stuck in some deep snow and the abrupt cooling/ heating. any suggestions. im pretty confident it isnt the cam shaft or whine b/c i know what those sound like. tia

Change plugs and check cap and rotor first.

Nick,
Does it sound like there's a little motor under the passenger dash? I've been experiencing the same thing and it's been getting louder and louder over the past few months. My O2 censors have been bad for a while and I'm wondering if that has anything to do w/ it. When I step on the gas the noise gets louder. Any one that can help please do!

Peter,
I just changed my plugs, cap and rotor about 4 months ago. I've been driving in a lot of water lately, could that have anything to do w/ it?

get a new manifold gastket and try that, get the Genuine ones from AB or RN they are twice as thick as the "discount" ones you can find.

I agree with Rob-probably an exhaust leak. With cold engine, start up and feel all over right side engine exhaust for pulsing. I found passenger side exhaust leak at weld where single down pipe enlarges to match cast exhaust flange ( about 2 inches below gasket flange). Re-welded and no probs since.

Well, you guys hit the nail on the head. I went in to look at the gaskets and I only had 1 out of 3 nuts holding the thing on! Added the nuts and no more "motor under the dash".
Thanks for your help and Nick I hope yours is as easy and inexpensive to fix as mine was.

Bad experience. Never abruptly switch gears from overdrive (3) to (d) after a long sustained acceleration. Effect? Exhaust manifold will tell you. Very embarrasing drive. Sounds like a broken exhaust pipe. . . I had to re-weld the cracked pipe to kill the noise. Happy days not over because i started to hear seems like air leak audible at the passenger side of the engine. It leaks during cold start and acceleration. What could this be? Need help. Hope it's not big of a damage. Lesson learned.
