It's time to replace my fluids as I've had the vehicle since June and haven't done it yet (except the oil). I have a '96 5spd D1 and I thought I'd try Redline MTL in the transmission, transfer case and differentials. Is that right? I also am getting some Redline 10W40 engine oil while I'm placing the order. I'm getting this from www.brothersperformance.com for $7.99/qt for each of the types of oil. First of all, am I ordering the right oils for the job? Second, are there any other things I should change, like the oil/grease in the swivel balls I guess? (just occurred to me). What would be good for that? Redline 75W90 gear oil? Not needing to get into the oil vs. grease question here unless you really want to BTW I do have the drain plugs - what would happen if I dumped degreaser in there to flush out the grease before putting in new grease or oil? Third, does anybody know where to get this stuff for less than $8/quart? Fourth, would 4 quarts of Redline MTL be enough to do my transfer case, manual transmission and differentials? I live in Southern California. Thanks! - Andrew. |

You need a little under 3 quarts of MTL to do the trans. I would not use MTL in the diffs or T-case, it is too thin. Use 75w-90 in the diffs and t-case. I forget on the t-case (I think 4 quarts) but you need 2 quarts each for the diffs. I would use genuine LR swivel grease in the swivels. So 8 quarts of 90wt and 3 for MTL for the trans. 7 quarts for the engine plus whatever you decide for the swivels. Ron |

Thanks Ron. I appreciate your help on this. Does anybody know where to get this stuff cheaper, and whether you can clean the grease out of your swivel balls by just putting in some degreaser and then draining it? - Andrew. |
