Does anyone have a hard wired radar detector installed on their discovery? If so how did they do it, and what one did you choose. Does anyone use a windshield mounted radar detector? I know what everyone is thinking why would you speed in a Discovery? I do a lot of highway driving Boulder to Denver everyday. I am tired of getting tickets for stupid shit...

Ever since I installed my snorkel, I have trouble controlling my speed. Just too much damn added power now, particularly with it facing forwards...

My disco does triple digits quite happily a radar dector is a must.

My favorite is the valantine one (it is by far the best), but the disco makes due with a uniden. I have been meaning to switch the bell out of the RR into the disco but I have not gotton around to it.

I've got one for the same reason Garret. 500 mile drives between SF Bay Area and SoCal.

I have an Escort Passport 8500.

Even if I'm not speeding as much as the other fools out there, I like to know as much as possible about what's around me on the Interstate.

It's why I have a GPS, a radar detector and a CB on when I'm interstate driving. Soon I'll have HAM capability too

Triple digits in a Disco?! You must have the Mantec snorkel, not the Safari...

I have a BEL 975r hardwired into my 01 DII. It's the top of the line BEL remote mount radar detector. You can get it for less than $350 these days.

I had a Bel remote mount installed in my old 93 240sx, in my 97 Disco I , and now the 975r in my 01 DII.

http://www.beltronics.com/vectorlrremote.html

If you decide to get this one, drop me a private e-mail and I'll give you some installation tips. I've installed about a dozen of these for friends, relatives, etc - and I could possibly offer some tips to help ya out.

I would also recommend the Valentine V1. I have the V1 hardwired in my Disco 2 and have the unit windshield mounted. The features on the Valentine make it well worth the $400 price tag. Not only does it alert you of a radar or laser signal, it also tells which direction the signal is coming from. It also has a bogey counter that shows how many radar sources are in use. I have had my V1 for over a year now, I wouldn't have any other radar detector.

As to those of you who don't think it is necessary to have a radar detector in your Rovers - don't install one then. Mind your own damn business and let the people who have some useful advice to answer the question.

I too have a valentine V1 and I think that it is by far the best radar detector that I have ever used. I have mine mounted to the left of the rearview mirror and it is hardwired. I generally drive 10 mph over the speed limit in the disco and many more than that in the Audi. Needless to say I haven't had a ticket in over a year, which is due to the V1.

I can attest the valentine one is by far the best radar detector I have ever owned. Before i had the tin in my wallet, I did about 10 mph over as well. I have gon through a ton of different detectors, all which have suked pretty much. They give false signals, die, or something goes wrong. Its worth the money for the v1. and the nice thing about valentine is when teh new technology comes out they upgrade your detector. just send it in, and pay minimal fee with shipping. you might save 100 bucks or so buying and escort or similar, but after a few years when technology chages, you are stuck. at least with the v1 its a lifetime relationship, which I like

I will argue, though, my father is sold on the K40 concealed detector.he runs it in conjuction with the laser defuser and jammer. its all installed under the dash, so you cant see a thing.

It was very easy to hard wire the V1, included is the cords and splicing stuff

Garret,

Looks like you already have your answer, but I just wanted to pipe in about the Valentine 1 myself. I've had a V1 since 1994 and have logged exactly one speeding ticket in that time -- no radar detector can protect you from your own stupidity, so I'll take the blame for that one.

I can also attest to Valentine's upgrade policy -- I've used it myself and it works. So, although I've got a nearly 10 year old box, the innards are as good as new -- they were all updated a year ago.

Windshield mounted valentine one, best of the half dozen of so I've owned over the years, not hardwired though.
