I really like your Disco2 rear bumper. I tow small trailers on occasion, and was wondering what you consider a safe max trailer weight and tongue weight for on-road towing, using a standard ball hitch. |

Same rating as the stock hitch. Class III if I'm not mistaken. And thanks for the compliments. |

So the bumper is tied into the frame other than at the bumper mount structure? Do you have a pic of the bumper and brackets sitting on the garage floor so that I could see how the hidden parts look? I really like the clean, high location of the receiver, since my trailer is lifted and has big tires, and its coupler height is 22 inches. Your bumper would allow me to use a straight or drop ball mount without the clearance issues of the low OEM receiver. Now I just need to buy myself a Discovery...... I'm working on that. |

The center of the bumper attaches to the rear crossmember in the same location as the stock hitch mount. It's a 5/8" plate that is welded to the bottom of the bumper and ecloses the bottom of the hitch receiver.

Sorry, but I don't have a photo of it from the rear. The holes are attachment points for the safety chains. Also, this is for a DII only. I don't make the bumpers for DI's. |

Very cool bumper, wish I could afford to have you make one for me. BTW, what is the thickness of the steel they use on the factory bumper? Can the factory bumper be reinforced to take a hit? I am just assuming that it would be cheaper in the short run to reinforce the existing bumper... http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |

John, See if these help you out:
Mounts to the factory hitch location.
Mounts to the factory bumper location (2 bolts per side vs. 1 from LR).
Drivers side wheelwell.
Passengers side whellwell. -Steve |

Well, on the DII, the bumper is composite, with a very small internal metal bracket that attaches it to the frame. Not worth reinforcing. Besides a stronger bumper that can take a severe beating, the intent of my bumper is to increase rear departure and get rid of the quarter panel metal that's hanging down waiting to get bent. John, as you can see from Steve's photos, my bumper attaches in twelve locations compared to the factory's two! Thanks for the extra photos Steve. |
