I was wondering if there was a factory option to add a cellular phone to your DI. I have Motorola V60i and want to install a hands free kit, using the stereo as the speaker. Does anyone know about this or have any suggestions on which one to get? -- Garret Curtis

You can get attachments for some phones that transmit to the car radio using a set frequency, so you hear through the stereo speakers; a small mike allows you to speak hands free too. I never used one though, but it seems a cheap alternative. Dean |

I wouldn't buy the motorola professional hands-free kit as it is junk. I have had it installed for about a year and sometimes I can get the phone to connect to the base and sometimes not. |

I agree with Carl. The hard wire install kit by Motorola for the V60 is a piece. The one I have is portable. It too is made by Motorola. It has a speaker, plugs into cigarette lighter, has a mic in the cord that plugs into the phone. The speaker also provides a jack for an external mic. Works pretty well for what it is. The "Navigator" kits play through your car speakers on I believe 88.3. It has a button to activate and deactivate speaker phone. It automatically mutes the radio. If you go with Navigator, let me know. I still have one in the box brand new. |

Garret, I have a Qualcomm 860 Thinphone hardwired to my D1. It uses a dedicated sound system. That being said, there is a factory option on the Land Rover radio to reduce the radio volume when a call comes in. This option is also on the Thinphone hands free kit. So theoretically this would be the next best thing to your question. The problem is that the guy that installed the handsfree kit, did not connect this feature up. Something about liability (though this was a "sales" feature of the hands-free kit.) I am not aware though of any phone that was designed to be used through the onboard sound system. BTW - If anyone has an idea where to connect the volume reducer to the LR radio without removing the entire dash. I would like to hear about it. -Reed |
