Looking to buy aftermarket pads for my D1.
Does anyone know if 96 D1 Brake pads (OEM) are they Metallic or Semi Metallic?

Also do you know the brakefluid specs(dot3 or 4). It's pretty much a stock vehicle.

I thought brake pads had a lead compound in them??? I think that is why you have to dispose of the used ones properly. I may be wrong, but I do know that Discos require Dot 4 fluid. I prefer the Lucas brand personally. About $7-8 for 12 oz.

I think everyones drinking too much DOT 4 brake fluid. The pads are available in semi-metallic and organic. They are also available in carbon fiber and kevlar. But they are pretty hard and in my opinion (FWIW) rough on the rotors. I would recommend either using the semi-metallic or organic.

Do yourself a favor and use the OEM Lockheeds, or be doomed to a life of squeeks.

I got those DBA pads from EE and those things are BAD ASS no squeaking, stop well, good modulation, and they are from Australia which adds to teh secret coolness factor immeasurably...

I like the organic due to the fact that they are less likely to chew up the rotors. The downside is alot of brake dust.

NAPA carries 2 kinds - the Organic - by Beck Arnley and the Semi Metallic from United/Dana.

GP - do you know which you're using? (wouldn't know the part numbers would ya)?
Thanks!
