Hello Everyone, Took my Disco I to the dealer for it's 45,000 checkup. I wasn't suprised when they called to tell me the mechanic wants to replace my rear brake rotors. I asked them why and you know that they told be...because there's rust on them and it will wear down my break pads faster. I told him not to replace them since it would add an additional $500 bucks (not including labor) to my bill. My question is...can I replace the rotors myself? If so, how long can I wait to replace them. Any insight anyone can provide would be greatly appreicated ([email protected]) Joseph John Fulay |

JJF, The part about rust being on your rotors and it wearing down your pads faster is nothing but a bunch of grandios bovine excrement being spewed upon you by the evil doers at the mothership. Slight surface rust on your rotor lasts about 3 seconds when you apply your brakes...and it doesn't do diddly to your pads...bunch of shit. Yes you can do it yourself check the tech section or do a search for a detailed explanation. If it were a D2 they would definitely need replaced...however D1's apparently have more meat on them so if they are scored you may be able to turn and reuse them. Other D1 owners will let you know. |
