It's time to replace the battery on the Disco before it embarrasses me again. These trucks do not like low voltage and make it very clear. I'm wondering what my mileage will return to with a new battery. Maybe it will start to idle better too!

Anyway, I would like to consider the Optima deep cycle battery as I have a deep cycle battery in one of my camp trucks and it has perfomred flawlessly.

Who here runs an Optima, your thoughts? Also, is there a particular parts house that carries them so I might be able to get one locally?

Peace,
Paul

I've run the Optima yellow for about 2-3 years now - no problems to date and starts well even when very cold and after it has been sitting for a few weeks unstarted.

I think if I did it again, I'd go with the Excide Orbital because there a bit cheaper and available everywhere (parts stores). Battery technology is the same as the Optima.

Bill:
That's good enough for me, off to find an exide orbital! Now, if I can just get a deal on two of them...

Thanx,
Paul

I too vote for the Exide Orbital. Make sure you get the Deep cycle one. But Optima now has new Group 31 Yellow Tops. I'd check those out.

Thanks for that info Milan - looks like that D31 battery is a considerable improvemnt:

More useless info - looks like Excide now also has the Orbital XCD - higher CCA battery, but not as good as the Optima D31 series.

Size of the D31 might be a problem - almost 3" wide than regular Yello Top!

No problem Bill. I thought someone might like that.

Ah. Just make it fit. It seems like the ideal battery for off-roaders now. I have the same class battery in my Bronco only regular lead-acid starting battery. Been working for 7 years now. It's not as good as when it was new but no signs of dying yet. The truck sits outside weeks at a time and it starts every time (watch me not be able to start it after this comment). So I figure the new Optima must be even better being Deep cycle. Oh yeah I used the winch with that battery a lot.
