Last week I changed the fuel filter in my '96 Disco. Before changing it I bled the fuel pressure off at the fuel log fitting. The next time I started the engine I got a "Check Engine" light. I thought it might have some thing to do with the fuel filter change and waited for the light to eventually go out. Yesterday, as the light was still on, I draggted out the computer and downloaded the info with an OBD-2 reader. The only code that came out was, "P1179 - Maximum Negative AMFR Correction Fault". Can someone tell me what "AMFR" means, as I have no clue? I reset the light but haven't been able to drive it yet. I will dirve it this afternoon to see if the light comes on again, but would still like to know what the fault meant. -Reed

Got something to do with the MAss air flow sensor getting too much air and not being able to adjust the fuel mixture enough... I think... I get it regularly but haven't come up with the solution yet... The plugs look fine, not lean Looking or getting too hot and i get no other codes... For the masses taht know ...Here's two of us with inquiring minds... |

Keith- I thought it might be a MAF reading too. It was just that the light coming on was coinsedent(sp?) with my changing the fuel filter. I went into town last evening, and drove home with no reoccurance of the light so, it may have been just an initial low fuel pressure. Though the fuel pump should have fixed that before the engine started. That might also explain the "Maximum Negative" part of the code. Still would like to know for sure though. -Reed

Carter, That is an excellent reference. Unfortunatly it states code P1179 is "Maximum Negative AMFR Correction Fault". Wich still asks the question "What is AMFR?". Doing a Google search on ODBII AMFR produces only two entries. One is the one you refrenced, and the other is a similar Land Rover specific site. Even a search for SAE HS-3000, and ISO 9141 did not produce the desired acronym. Though the search for ISO 941 did produce some interesting papers on DYI OBDII interfaces. For me, like I said earlier, the light is out and it is just perverse curiosity that makes me want to know what "AMFR" means. |

Air Mass Flow Rate You did the wrong Google search. Do Rover AMFR. Or I can just act like I'm smart and knew what it meant. pwc |

Peter- Thanks! I did the search and actually found your post above. There was some other reading too. One guy got a P1178 code which is the "Maximum Positive AMFR fault". Later he replaced the fuel filter and the light went out. That would be in line with my Max Negative after I changed the filter. It was probably a momentary fault, and I am not going to worry about it anymore. BTW - I am sure you knew the acronym, but just wanted me to do the search, so reinforced the thought for me. . Keith- Lets hope not!!! -Reed |
