That is so stupid. I do not know how states get away with double and triple taxing on vehicles. You already pay tax when you buy, then property tax (depending on state) gas, tags, etc, etc. It has become such a scam by our government to nickle and dime our population for their failure to properly manage money. I hope that the people of CA will not vote for such a measure. Because if CA passes then it becomes a trend for the rest of the country.

Yes it is. That may mean that my 914-6 becomes a trailer queen.

However, this is simply going back to the way it was up until a few years ago when legislation was passed which allowed '74 and older vehicles (and next year a progressive 30 year old vehicle smog exemption)to be exempted from smog checks. You'd be surprised (maybe not) how CA sets smog requirements for old vehicles such as a '67 911S or mid '60s VW bug. It made it virtually impossible to pass even with pristine restored vehicles that were "better than new". I heard about a guy with an early 911S that had to install some bizzarre over-size tires on the rear to get his car to pass the Mode 2 "25/25" test which required to meet 25% of current federal standards at 25 MPH.

Unfortunately, CA is in a $28-35 billion budget deficit and the governor and legislature is trying to come up with more taxes and is willing to kill small business, hurt schools and hurt taxpayers rather than any apreciable cuts in govt.

After reading bill-I was wrong! This is more draconian than previous requirements which exempted 1965 and older vehicles. The bill pushes exemption back to 1961 and older vehicles! There really were no smog controls or requirements on CA vehicles until 1965! This is ridiculous!

Once again showing why I DESPERATELY am trying to convince my wife to move out of California.

Will the BS ever stop?
