Ok, this is going to sound pretty darn silly, but I'm stumped so here I go anyway...

To begin, I am not refering to air damn mounted fog lights...I don't even have an air damn any more. Now, that being said, I'm pretty darn sure that my truck used to have front "running lights" - ie. when you rotate the light stick one click forward you get the two amber lights on the front corners to come on (as well as some rears). When you rotate all the way to the headlight setting, those ambers should stay on also.

Now, I'm one of those drivers that always uses headlights for all driving (day & night), so from inside the truck I don't have a clue what's going on up front unless a headlight is out. However, a couple months ago I was driving our Saturn with my wife behind me in the Disco and I noticed that the amber side lights weren't lit up.

The turn signals still work fine, and I checked every fuse that is light related, so I figured the bulbs must have gone. Since I need to replace a few other bulbs anyway, I figured I'd do these at the same time. Unfortunately, I can't figure out where they might be. The amber light unit only has a single bulb on each side (for the turn signal) and it looks perfect. I checked the manual and it shows that the headlight unit has something called a "side light", but it is located on the lower inside corner of the headlight unit so it can't do anything for the ambers.

Am I just imagining these amber running lights and those ambers are turn indicators only, or am I missing something? If the turn signal bulb is a two-way bulb, does anyone know the part number is so I can pop into the local VIP or PepBoys and pick it up. Also, does anyone know what those "side lights" are in the headlight unit?

It is the light switch itself. The light stick you mentioned is bad.

I thought about that, but as I mentioned the rear lights come on in the intermediate (running light) mode. Is there a seperate part of the switch circuit (relay?) for the front ambers and the rear lights?

Also, is the turn signal bulb a two-way bulb (turn indicator + running light) or just a one-way bulb that flashes when using the turn signal?

Headlight has two lamps in it: one for the parking lights and the other main head light. The corner of the head light amber is only a turn signal. There is a small amber side light on the plastic air dam. It is located about one and a half to two inches below the top of the plastic, nearly four inches below and slightly behind the rear line of the turn signal.

Operationaly, the side and rear lights come on in either parking or running light mode. The only difference is which lamp illuminates in the head light.

Hope that this helps.
