Welding the Exhaust Manifold

I took my rover to a local welding and muffler shop. They quoted $200 to remove both sides, weld them back together and put them back on. My question is will the weld hold? The welding shop says they do it all the time. Any experiences. Is it even available? Both of mine are cracked and I was able to get two used (non cracked) manifolds for just over $100, my friend at the muffler shop is going to charge around $100 for swapping out both sides. I'll have my old ones welded up as back ups. Im going to let them do it. They said I need the manifold gaskets and the doughnuts. WTF is a doughnut? That is unless you really want to go to the dealer..
