A girl with her head up her ass ran a stop sign and put her toyota directly in the path of my wife in my disco. No one was hurt.
I'm not getting estimates untill early this week. My queston is: what determines weather the check is cut to me in my name or cut directly to the body shop? I've had it go both ways before.
I had an "informal" estimate done today and the sum of the parts that make up my bumper and factory brush bar ($975) are well over the price of an ARB. Anybody have any advice on how to work this? It would obviously be much easier if the check was in my name.

Thanks

You can choose who it is cut to but if you have it cut to you they will make it for the least amount they can. I.E. discounts and very little work hours.

I had a similiar incident and I called my insurance company and asked which shop I could get a qoute from. I went to the shop not telling them that my insurance was paining for it and that I was paying out of pocket. They hooked me up with 2250 dollars worth of getting my truck fixed and all it was, was a tumber lock on my exploder that got punched in and caused body damage to the door and completley tore apart the dash. anyway I faxed the qoute to my insurance company and told them I will do the work myself and they cut me a check for the amount of the qoute minus the deductible. So then I snapped the dash back on and bondoed the hole where the lock used to be good as new. Then I gave the truck to some poor college kid and bought a Land Rover

If it is her fault you can have the work done at any body shop of your choice. If your front bumper is messed up-Let the body shop of your choice include the ARB in the quote. Let them know instead of factory you would rather have the ARB. The body shop will send the quote to the ins.co. and the work can be done W/O an inspection. If the quote is outrageous the ins co will send an adjuster out to inspect the damage or they will send you to one of their body shops. Rental cars-Make sure you let the ins co know you drive a rover otherwise you will end up with a Taurus or something small. Let them know you want to drive something equivalent to what you drive. They will accomodate an expedition.

It was the other drivers fault. However, her insurance company is meeting me tommorow for an inspection before I have any estimates done. If I tell them an ARB is cheaper do you think they would go for it? If they won't I may just deal with my insurance company instead. If I was certain the check was coming my way it wouldn't be much of an isssue.

I work at a body shop and I know from experience that many small shops love to cut deals. So, go to a smaller shop and ask them what kind of deals you can get and if they'd raise the estimate a little so you can get something else and put a little extra cash in both of your pockets. can't hurt...

Jsut got of the phone with my agent. He said that if her company wouldn't cut the check directly to me that he would. My insurance would then get reimbursed by hers. He said once the check is cut that they don't care how the car is fixed or what parts are used.
Looking around at specials online I can get a winch also with very little out of pocket expense. Sweet; now I just have to figure out which bumper to get.

Brent:
Often times, it depends upon whether the truck is still under a lien. If so, the check will likely be cut to you and the body shop, or you and the bank.

The insurance company cut a check to me today. Went to my body shop and discussed spliting the work with them. I'm going to take off all the busted stuff and install everything I can (headlight, grill, bumper) and they will take care of the rest. The difference will leave me with enough for an ARB and a winch.

For once something good comes out of dealing with insurance!

Get the three estimates or so that the insurance requires. This does not mean you have to go to only 3 places. Go to 10 if you have the time and summit the 3 highest. The insurane co. has to honar the Co. you want, at least in VA. Work something out with the shop owner on parts. He does not give a dam as long as he is paid for the labor. If they pay it to you, well you have some extra money to go towards you new Goodyear MT/R's.

Brent:
You are fortunate indeed. My wife is an insurance adjuster. She would never allow what you are describing to take place as the future liability could cause major accountability problems.

i would definitely make sure I remain with that insurance company.

Yes, I'm going to stick with progressive. They have treated me very well on this matter.
I was up front with my agent about what I wanted to do. He told me basicly that once the check is cut that they are pretty much done with the claim (unless there is any unforseen problems). After that I can repair the car however I see fit.
There are other bumpers I like a little better than the ARB, but NWP has a terrific price that will also allow me to get a winch.

Brent, you are one of the lucky ones. I had the worst time with Progressive. I had a 90 RX7 convertible a coulple years ago that someone had keyed. The adjuster said since the paint was faded "red" 10 years at the time they said that could not make 10 year old red faded paint to replace it. That sold me. After fighting with the adjuster and his supervisor I finally had them pay for the damage. Then I went with another company.
