What is the best way to get back the approach angle I had before I installed my ARB bumper?

I am tired of getting hung up on the stupid thing!

Have you already upgraded your suspension? A set of OME HD springs all around should help out.

Take a look at ECR4 where Mike sliced and diced an ARB

Greg, I'm still deciding what bumper to go with and i was worried about the aproach angle with arb and tjm. The best looking one seems to be the SG but I don't think it's air bag compatible. Do you have more problems when you nose off on steep to flat terrain, or when you pull up to an obstacle just trying to get your wheels on it. And like Lawrence asked are you lifted at all? I'm not telling you this will fix it. Just trying to figure it all out before I make the wrong decision. Thanks and goodluck!!

Steve

On one hand I wish I got the Rovertym, $G, or KVT for a better approach angle but on the other hand I don't care because the departure angle still sucks and why be able to get the front up something if your still going to drag the ass? I also wish I got something else for better strength and looks but I can't complain too much because my ARB really hasn't been all THAT bad to me (of course I don't live in Moab or anything :-))

The ARB is BIG.
I like the looks of it. It is beefy and definitely looks very utility. That is also its biggest problem.
Carter...I agree that the departure angle is bad, but why have a shitty approach as well? The times I have gotten hung up have been when I was stuck on both the front and back. In looking at how I was hung, I am convinced that if I had my stock bumper I would not have had a problem.

I do need to add lift. My suspension is stock. Will it really make that much of a difference?

Greg, check out the Rockware stuff. I had an ARB on my last vehicle and now have a Rockware. The ARB was a great bumper but the RW is much better. Approach angle is much improved over the ARB and the quality is amazing. It looks similar to the $afari Gard (better IMHO) and is priced about the same but the RW bumper is made from boxed tubing (much stronger) than the open channed used by ARB & $G.
http://www.rockware.net/ Check out the "Custom Work" section then click on "Land Rover" There are some shots of modifications to the ARB as well as the Disco RW bumper. I can't say enough good things about mine - I wouldn't switch it out for anything on the market.

Sorry that should read "...the open CHANNEL used by ARB..." Referring to the backside of the ARB & SG bumper.

Art,
What did Matt have to do to fit it on the Disco? Last I spoke with him he needed to have the truck for a day to fit it.

I agree with you on Rockware. I have one on the 90. It's taken a few good hits, not to mention obliterating a deer at 40mph and it hasnt budged. I would love to have one for the Disco but getting the truck out to CO isn't gonna happen any time soon.

I think that they need it in order to seld some extra mounts to the frame. The rockware is not at all like the ARB, you really can slam it where the ARB will dent and bend. Matt did require that I left the rig with him, but maybe he has some designs that would only use stock mount points or you might be able to do it yourself if handy enough. Just give him a jingle.

Sorry Neil I have a D90, not a Disco, I didn't realize he needed the vehicle to fit it. You should check with him again, I would imagine he's done at least a couple of them by now and has the measurements he needs. I would also imagine the tolerances on a Disco are much better than the D90's. As you probably know, nothing is ever the same from one D90 to another, hell, sometimes things are different side to side, like my rocksliders. My last D90 had an ARB, which was a pain to fit, I had to trim and drill new holes, but the RW bumper bolted right up. Same with my shock mounts, perfect fit. It also helps that Matt is such a great guy and runs a top-notch business with an emphasis on customer service. My first customer service experience dealing with $G solidified my decision to avoid them whenever possible. Just my $.02.
