Dan, Count me in. If you do the day run Im guessing this will be on Saturday? Let me know the final plans, where to meet, camping, trails,ect... The new Sheetz station may be a better place to meet. Cheaper gas, better food and great coffee. It is just 1/4 mile west of the Exxon.

Okay, mark me in for Sat. (might be able to camp) assuming the truck is running. I'll have the winch on by then too.

Michael,
What winch did you get? I'll go too if I can get my truck dried out and running. It goes in to Ben on Thursday so I hope a week of work should fix the old tank/submarine. Sheetz is a good place to meet.

Ordered a Warn M15K, not as big/heavy as I thought it would be, just got my RTE slimline today (I fitted the bumper in the back of my truck with John's packing pallet cuz FedEx couldn't get up my road), got everything apart and ready to go if the rain holds off tomorrow. Should be able to get the winch and lights wired up too if weather cooperates. That slimline is awesome, the fit and finish is brilliant.

Man, I'm hoping to get Ben on Fri for my AT/T-case switch out (you'll see my "new" one there at the shop), I'm also hoping he'll let me pitch in.

Is it the one with the A-bar? Since my truck has been stuck in my driveway, I've discovered more leaks than I can deal with now. I guess that's why they call it a Land Rover "Discovery". I hope I can make the trip.

My truck is at the shop now (next to Mike's AT)and my buddies said that it looked like a moth trying to fly away since all the doors were open and the "drying tube" was inside. I think I'll be able to make the trip and this time...if I sink the truck, I will drive out...so help me God!!!

I hope Ben can perform miracles!

What time is everyone meeting and do you mind another truck? My wife went to JMU and we haven't been wheelin up there in about four years but we might be free next sat. We just need to figure out a time b/c we'll likely be dropping our daughter off with the grandparents and then heading that way, which means we'll be coming from Richmond. Anyway, let me know what time and I will pass it along to the "boss" and see if she's up for it.

Lester,
I will be driving up from Charlottesville/Crozet if you want to meet up, not that the new Sheetz is hard to find. In the past, we've met up between 9-10. What time is it this trip, anyone? Any one know if Enoch is going to make it?

James,
Thanks for the offer, we might want to meet up with you in C-ville before continuing on to Harrisonburg. 9-10 works for us, I think, I emailed Dan to confirm the time-I imagine that will get posted here too. As we get closer I will get in touch and we'll figure out which exit off 64 you want to meet up at in C-ville, unless you were going to go up 29 and over 33, which is a cool drive but much slower the last time I remember doing it.
I guess this will motivate me to finish all my little projects on the Disco that have languished during the winter.

I was planning on being in Harrisonburg around 10ish, sounds like we're going to have lots of trucks so an early start would be good. It looks like the weather is going to be ok so I might camp saturday for anyone who's interested.

10 sounds good. I went to JMU as well Lester. Fastest meeting point is exit 107(crozet), Take a right then a left to get back on 64 and I can meet you on the "ON" ramp. No big deal though. I am up for camping Sat. night as long as it is not raining or freezing.

Sat, 10AM at Sheetz on 33 in Harrisonburg, I'll be there too, I'm still not sure if I can camp or not.

BTW, James, I spent all day next to your rig yesterday, looks good given the bath you gave it...Ben's shop looks tough with the three rovers in there. We're having to finish up Mon afternoon as he was shipped the wrong seals, but we got the new AT mounted yesterday.

I'm still on the fence guys. I'll let you know as the week goes by whether I'm coming or not. My wife had the baby yesterday at 2:54pm (8 pounds 6 ounces)!! :-) However, I was given notice on Thursday that I'm being laid off from my job on the 14th. :-( So I'll have to see how things go this week before I know for sure. I'm also up for camping if I can. Will do me some good to get out for a while if the little women doesn't mind.

James,
Email me a phone number ([email protected]), or ([email protected])or let me know an approx link up time at the Crozet exit, we'll be coming from Richmond that am and I am fairly used to that stretch of highway so I can probably hit a time hack within 5 minutes or so (pending any catastrophic disco failures of course).
Looking forward to it!

My number is 540-421-1786. How does 9:00am sound? It takes about 50 minutes from crozet to the Sheetz in the Burg. That way, we'll have a few minutes to stock up.

Ray and others,
Since Mike Noe's truck has been hogging the service center, my truck will not ready for the trip LOL! Luckily, I also have a Fj-62 which I'll be taking. Ray, I'll still meet you at the same place, I'll just be in a gold Land Cruiser. Weather looks good so we'll be camping. See you all soon.

lol, I didn't ask, but I wondered if he was gonna get you done. After seeing your "list" I figured he'd knock it out in a couple of hours if your problem was really just the ignition switch. Guess not (ecu?).

Anyway, I'm camping too, solo.

I'm actually driving to Lr Richmond tomorrow morning to see if they can reprogram whatever is wrong. It should be interesting since I can't turn my truck off without having to "hotwire" it. We'll see.

Hey guys, I got my body lift installed and my new Swampers on over the last 2 days. Someone was asking if the body lift is easy or not, I can't remember who. Simple. I did it by my self in just over 3 hours (air tools). All I need to do is a little trimming on the rear fender wells and im ready to go. I'll see ya'll at Sheetz around 10:00. I live less than 1 mile away. What channel on the CB will we be on just in case something happens?
The weather here has been awsome so if my wife lets me I will camp out too.

Come on down. Take 66 to 81 south. Get off at Harrisonburg at 33 and take it west about a mile and you will see sheetz. We will be there at 10.

Yea looks like i'm up for camping too, or at least spending the night in the back seat as long as the weather isn't too cold for me. Is that sheetz past the exxon/mobile off exit 247 or the other side of the bridge?

James-roger on the Gold LC, we'll be at Crozet at 9:00

We're probably not camping-the wife has an aversion to too much great outdoors and the grandparents have to be rescued from our little girl, but it still looks like its shaping up to be a good weekend.
See everyone tomorrow!

Do we know what trails we are running? How is everyone set up? Lockers? Winches? Big nobby tires?
I have not been up there but I bet it is muddy. The water is deep too I bet. Someone should bring a chain saw.
For one night of camping, how much beer do I need?
How about CB Channel #4?
OK, im done. See ya'll in the morning.

Just so nobody gets confused, it is the NEW sheetz on 33, west of the I81 and 33 intersection by about a mile or so. Not the old sheetz behind the Movie Theatre. Normally, lockers are not needed and the water is only deep if you decide to hit the deep end (Mike, Got a great picture of you in the deep end). Mud tires help but are not a must. I was able to bypass some electrical crap, so my D1 is running, barely. I'll bring my personal recovery team and vehicle as well. Damn windows are stuck down though. You can never have too much beer. We can choose trails in the morn. See you all tomorrow.

Dan, no it was not digital. Funny you should mention that that because my wife and I were looking at new video cameras today. Let me know when you guys, and girls, want to get back together. I had a really good time. No broken parts, and my truck still runs fine, so I guess it was a good trip for me. Poor Lester, anyone heard from him?

Crazy Dan
Definitely learned some things about driving my rig and I have some minor cosmetic damage. I bailed early Sun (about 10am), all else were still sleeping (except Tate's wife).

That's a sweet picture, it looks like my premature retirement caused me to miss some fun.
God only knows what will come out of this for my Disco, I really appreciate the tow out and the help getting her down to the road, not to mention the follow-ups yesterday and today on the Tech forum.
I know one things for sure, I'll learn a lot about my truck by the time I get her back in running order, and next time I'll be more cautious and less stuipid-a lesson my wallet and wife will remind me of for awhile.
It was great to meet everyone and I look forward to going again and learning more.

I have some pics too. I actually left my digital camera on Dictum and had to go back the next day to get it...it was still there. I thought one of those guys with the helicopter engines in their 4-wheelers would have picked it up. I'll post pics as soon as I can burn them on a CD. My computer is to old to have the correct port. Ray, what's the word with your truck? Mike, thanks for the shot of the cruiser. See you all next time. I'll go every week. I hope I have Low next time, even though I now know that I don't need it!

James, glad you found your camera, that's cool. I almost stopped up there on my way out but I figured it'd be the first place you'd head unless you forgot. :-)

When arriving back to the junction after dropping Lester and Alicia down at the bottom, I could have sworn I heard a helo coming. Turns out it was a 660? ATV idling somewhere there at base camp Charlie.

Sorry I missed all the action. Now that you have a winch, Mike, we need to head up Kephart. ALL the way up Kephart.
James, that drying your truck out shit sucks. After I did it in my truck, the replacement list included:
-replace ECU (used)
-replace alarm control (used)
-replace MAF. (this was wierd, my truck would stall when turning left. It took LR Richmond weeks to figure that one out.)
-ABS control (never replaced)
-eventually I think the water damage led to window motor failure, heater blower motor failure, other wierd stuff.
It was several months before my truck was running correctly again, and a year before that damn foam under the carpet stopped stinking.
But the old girl's been going strong since then!
Anyway, hope I can make it next time. I won't try to take the Series truck up Dictum's in the snow, either...

So far the only damage is: alarm system is wierd(does not work) and the rear windows only go down. I guess I'm just lucky as usual! No stinky shit either!!! I'll be at the Crozet dilly for sure.

Yeah, well, I don't have the winch on yet, gotta get the correct bumper mounting plate, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have it right.

Yeah, we should find out about clearing that Kephart run all the way up, get a few of us and make a weekend out of it.

I'm up for it. Did we ever really look to see what was above that rock wall though?

I have on another occasion. If you cross the ravine, then climb up the "old" road, come around the bend of the rock face, there's a huge pot of gold. :-)

James- the weather hasn't turned hot yet.
Mike- I think there are multiple branches of Kephart Run Trail. Any I've been on didn't have any gold! It would be good to hike it all the way through, and see where it comes out on top. It may come out behind a gate or something.

I got some pics of the trip up now. I wish we had a group shot of the people, but it looks like only the trucks were photo-worthy. The ones at the top are of camp setup in the "big snow" over President's Day.
