I just bought a used 2000 discovery II after owning a 97. I asked the dealer if the constant whining noise in the power steering pump is normal. He said it is. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks, Chris |

The steering pump should not whine. More likely you are getting a whine from the tension roller. If so it should be changed. There are no normal whines. John www.robisonservice.com

Thanks for your reply. The car is still under warranty and I had them look at the tensioner and they replaced one due to a bad bearing. I will take it back to them again and have them loo into it one more time. |

No whines on my '00 DII, so no, that's not normal. |

There is a TSB on these trucks, requiring replacement of the belt, the idler, and in extreme cases, other pulleys. Tell them to look it up, it was issued a long time ago. Paul |

I have the same noise and the dealer also said that it was normal. I just figured that I would fix it myself. |
