Looking for a good local or even Europian parts supplier. Any ideas? Cheaper the better of course.

Kyle,

I'm in Canada too and, as you know, it sucks having parts shipped from the states. This is especially true if they ship via UPS. I've had UPS try to charge me over $100 in brokerage fees for items costing $20.

One thing I can recommend is getting a customs broker and ALWAYS have your item shipped to a company name (eg. Kyle Porter Inc.). If the item clears customs via a real customs broker as opposed to those F*&$ing B$@%tards at UPS you will save a fortune.

I've purchased from roversnorth.com (Vermont, good catalogue too). I've also heard good things about atlanticbritish.com.

For Canada I've found

http://www.britrest.com/

and this page may help

Good Hunting

Kyle

The cheapest that I know of is Nathan at Discount Rovers. For example, O2 sensors for 96 D1 were $90 US while Britrest was asking for more than the LR Calgary.
So what I am trying to say is that you just have to search around and check everywhere. IMHO that is half the fun.

I bought a o2 sensor at the local UAP NAPA, in Oakville ON.
get the house brand, which is eichland, open the box, and surprise !!! It is NTK just like the original!!I think it was $130 cdn.
the funny thing is, they quoted me Original-same as dealer,
NTK- $75 cheaper, and then the "UAP" brand.
What a F***in' joke!!
check them out, today, they might have to order it. check out oxygen sensors.com too!!!

If its a personal purchase you do not have to pay brokerage fees in Canada.

My first purchase out of country was a transfer case from Aschroft in the UK. They assumed a brokerage firm would be required and charged me accordingly. Stupid thing was stuck in customs for two weeks while the brokerage firm tried to clear it. Some guy down east wasn't returning thier phone calls and they were hung. Don't know why the brokerage firm didn't get it the first 50 times I said it but it finally became clear to them that it was a personal purchase. I had the transfer case in less than one hour. All I had to do was sign it out and pay taxes at the customs office. Ashcroft provided a refund for the brokerage fees charged.

My last UPS delivery was to my home door. Delivery charge and taxes only.

Kevin,

You are absolutely wrong with regard to "If its a personal purchase you do not have to pay brokerage fees in Canada". The only "exemption" is if it's worth $20 CDN or less. Let me know when you fing a LR part for less then that.

If customs are swamped they will sometimes let a chunk of orders flow through, Christmas is an example. But if you get hit with UPS customs and brokerage charges you WILL hit the roof. Your only protection is to set up an account with your own customs brokerage.

thanks guys this will help. When I posted this message it was in general about parts I may need in the future. Since then I found out I need at least the front rotors, callipers and pads replaced immediately and maybe the rears too! Buddy quoted near $2000 for the whole job (not including rear callipers!) I think I'll be shopping around a little before I bite that bullet!

Bruce,

Now I'm confused.

Read your earlier post and thought no way. Didn't jive with what I learned from my transfer case fiasco. Looked at some UPS receipts and I had a couple in the $280 US range with only Customs GST charged. I then found one for $800 US approx. I was charged $46.95 for an "Entry prep fee".

I also seem to remember that the address seemed to come into play with all this: residential vs business.

Can you shed any light on this?
