My check engine light is on. I baught a new $150.00 OBDII scanner today. When I pluged it in, it says PASS no codes. But the light is still on. So what next. My car does start slow. I have been told it is due to leaky Injectors. But wouldnt that show up as a code if my injectors are not working properly? Anyway, HELP. Thanx for your responses. Mark

When I first plug in my code reader, it always shows no codes until I "Request" new data. Since it's a new toy, could it be operator error? Maybe verify you're following the instructions for your reader. Just a thought..

The scanner you bought will only work for generic OBDII codes or P zero codes. The processor may have a manufacture specific code stored in it and the generic scanner cannot read that info. Manufacture codes are P one codes and the only way i know to read them is with autologic or testbook in a LR

In 96 the feds required the manufactures to have a standard set of fault codes for emmision related components among other things. These can be read by a code scanner during inspection to verify the vehicle is compliant. All of these codes are know as p zero codes because they all start with zero and the fault numbers all mean the same thing no matter what vehicle the fault is read from
example p0300 = misfire on multiple cylinders
p0441 = purge flow incorrect

The manufacture can also have fault codes that are not emmissions related and can hold these faults from being read by just anybody. All of the manufacture specific faults are known as p one faults
example
p1535 = A/C compressor request malfunction
p1674 = engine anti-theft signal

Hey Oliver what about using a laptop to hook up to my car. Is the software expensive for that? Ive heard of it befor. Anyone? I have to take my car to the dealer especially when I have heard so much about scanners working. I think I may have bought the wrong OBDII scanner.
