Unless I'm missing something, nobodys been talking about the Hummer H3 that's due to come out later this year. Does anybody have any info on it? I hear that it's based on the Chevy S10.
Oh, the horror!

From that sketch, it looks as though GM is trying to combine the rugid look of a hummer with the usefulness of the new subaru. It's amazing how GM applys sooooo much plastic to their stuff and Americans come running with their wallets to buy it. Kinda like the Aztec thing that Garrett dreams about at night........:-)

I just read an article in Automobile talking about the future of Ford with Land Rover and Jaguar. Not good for LR. But it's even worse for Gm who purchased SAAB. They are loosing their ass!

But then again....my VW was built in Mexico......

So are we gonna start seeing commercials about "Change for a dollar?" or "Wanna change?"

Is there really no real rear wall? Or is that cut for viewing purposes on the show car? Well, it can be called a "Hummalanche"........

I saw a quip about the H3 on the bottom of the screen on CNN's Headline News... went to check, and not only is there gonna be an H3, there's gonna be a smaller H4, more like a Wrangler-sized vehicle, so, there'll be a family of 3 HX vehicles....

FWIW...

Yes, but just remember, somewhere some GM engineer and marketing person are getting a pat on the back for being so smart and thinking of this idea to create vehicles based on the reputation of the original.

I'm sure we will see the same crap out of Ford once some rocket scientist there realizes they can build an Escort into a truck wagon and throw a LR logo on it and then market the shit out of it to make it sell. How long before the LR Dashes, radios and guages start to come off the standard Ford parts shelf?'

Most of the time I would venture to guess that the company is just buying the name and reputation, and not the product line. Who gives a shit about making a product true to heritage if you can make a cheaply produced product, throw a name badge on it and sell it for $50k.

Looks as useful as the Subaru Baja....

I'm a subaru owner as well, and it makes me sad to see what they've done. I'm sure some GM owners out there are crying too.

Hey Chris von C:

The link you provided was for the H2 "SUT", an Avalanche-esque option that'll be available for the H2. The H3, along with an H4 sometime down the line, will be smaller than the H2, or so I've heard.

I betcha that the waiting list for this vehicle is a mile long. Hell, on the H2 sight a while back someone mentioned they only had an 18 month wait. Evidence itself that this is truely a wannabe vehicle.

However, to each his own, it does come with a rear locker.

yep brian is right the H2 SUT and the H3 are two different vehichles.

but GM is still miles off the mark IMHO

quote:

Note that the S10 chassis is a separate frame-and-body design, just the ticket for the tough assignments an ultimate SUV is expected to perform. Off-road will be where it shines. And heavy-duty trailer towing will be listed near the top of its resume capabilities.

what total Bull shit....GM just keeps stacking it deeper

This is exactly what happened in the bicycling industry about 5-8 years ago or so - especially as the various subspecialties of mountain biking (downhill, "freeride" and dual slalom) and cyclocross became popular. Instant credibility and niche product representation through purchasing a name and then swapping in the big company's lack of creativity and cheap manufacturing with the small, "cool" little company's logo on it.

Oh well.

prediction- the new 'h3' will be priced out at $35,000.00 +. it will basically wheel about as well as the mini blazer zr1 (?) they tried to push on the public about 6 years ago... see how many there are on the road today? how about on the trails ?

but i am sure it will sell like crazy, as there might be some drizzle on the way from picking up their latte' to the gym.....

paleeze!!!!!

land rover REALLY needs to get their heads out of their rear diffs, and import the td5 discos with cdl......or bring back the d110sw with a 4.6 or td5 (they could get past importation by installing a 2000lb weight in the back to bring the weight over 7000lbs and then removing the weight at the docks...)

I hate to say it but if LR brought the Defender back, I'd put myself on the waiting list for a new one too. Even if it was 18 months....

But not for an H2 of course.

yeah I read that GM hopes to give land rover discovery some competition with the H3 as it will be priced around 35,000.00. I'm sure they are shaking in the boots in Solihull...from the laughter:-)

If that light is what I think it is I would love to have one on my Disco. Having a FLIR System in the truck would be a cool toy to play with.

Aaaaah yes, infrared video cameras. Last time I played with one of those was about 10 years ago. It cost around C$70,000 at the time and as a Co-op student working for the government I got to demonstrate it at trade shows. I had great fun demonstrating it by showing trade show chicks how "hot" they were :-)

Tax dollars hard at work.

What's with this boxy look anyway? Has anyone seen the Honda Element up close? Basically a miniature of the 03 Hummer.
