I swear that I posted this yesterday and now it is not on the board.... Anyway I need new shocks for my 99DII and am a little put off by the lack of choices. I don't want to spend $400 on Bilstein or Old Man Emu. Are there any other choices out there? What can I expect to pay for original shocks? Thanks, Matt

Your thread is just a little lower down on the board. Check again.

I'm sure you can find a replacement shock through your local auto parts store. Perhaps Monroe or Gabriel may have an equivalent shock. How about Rancho?

Personally I rather spend the extra money for either the OME / Bilsteins. My DII has HD OME shocks / springs and they work great both on and off-road. I had Rancho 9000s (adjustable) on my previous 4X4 and it actually cost more.

What if someone with a D2(such as myself) have SLS? I have heard that the rear OME shocks are too long and that it will tear the bag. How can this be true if people put lifts on their SLS D2s?

There's a great write up by John Lee on expedition exchange about lifting a D2 with SLS. Check it out..

Pete, I've got a D2 and followed the link above to "trick/adjust" the SLS for the lift. I've had no problems so far, but do plan to eventually put spacers under the bags to lessen the likelihood of problems. Rovertym sells the spacers. I thing Al Oliviera has installed them too.

If I were to keep the same stock height (same springs) on a DII, would I be better off with the Bilstiens or the OME.

I don't do a whole lot of offroading, but it is a daily driver and the ride is probably the most important to me!

Thanks,
Will
