I think I bought the wrong OBDII Scanner for my 96 Disco. Anyone know of one that for sure works?

I got mine at www.obd-2.com, it works. Mine times out alot, but I can read the codes. Understanding the meaning of the codes is something else.

I also got mine from OBD-2.com. It does display codes and will clear them/ reset the Check Engine Light. Some of the tests appear to be N/A for '96. I admit I do not completely understand all the data it provides and may, at times, be using it incorrectly. My only real negative remark about this particular reader is that the ISO connector (the one that attaches to the vehicle) is a poor/ loose fit.

Tom,

Thant may be the reason I keep getting the intermittent connection. Where the plug is under the dash, it is hard to connect it without demounting the plug. (It has never been firmly connected to the dash. Probably because of some over zealous LR tech when the rig was newer.) So I rarely am able to confirm how well the to connectors are fitted.

I also bought the Indio connector because I had several cars I needed to access, and also wanted the additional spike protection from the opto-isolators, so these may also contribute to the timeouts.

Mine works fine in my 96 - bought it off Ebay. Brand is Eqquis (sp?) and it fits my dash plug perfectly. There is a post in the last few days that has a link to a site with all of the LR codes.

Just downloaded the latest upgrade for OBD-2, and sent it over to my laptop. (It doesn't get connected to networks much anymore.) I was able to log on and stay connected a lot mor reliably than with the older version.

Tom,

Even now there seem to be a lot of tests that it doesn't do on my '96, I seem to remember it all working one day though, but can't remember.

I am now looking toward the Auterra scanner for the Palm as I always seem to have it with me. The software looks good too, but it won't connect through my OBD-2 Indio plug. So field testing is a long ($$$) way off.

Thanks Reed. I didn't realize an update was available. I'll check it out. Overall I'm happy with the reader. My goals was to get some idea as to whether my truck was about to explode or not, and to be able to reset the code. Was worth <$150 for just that. ;D
