Hi Everyone: I have a 1995 disco and the alternator does not seem to be charging my battery. I actually replaced the alternator with a brand new alternator and I am experiencing the same problems. My tach works on and off and when I put my volt meter on my alternator sometimes it reads 13.79 volts and then sometimes it only reads 12.1 volts output. When this happens my tach stops working. I have already tried 2 different alternators and a new battery but it keeps happening. Does anyone have any other suggestions? thanks |

Just replaced mine. Took Nathan 2 tries to get a Bosch rebuilt to work. First one charged unregulated from 14.2 as high a 16.1 It finally tripped out on thermal overload and quit charging (that's where your 12.1v comes from). Take it back, send it back, whatever. The Bosch units from Nathan are 250 plus core and he's had good luck with em (other than my first one). Mine now charges nicely at 14.1v down to 13.4v after extended run. PS I hooked a little compass/voltmeter to mine cig lighter and it really helps keep track of the charging system. |
