I installed a Sony MP3 player and it works great. Obvisouly I gave up the dashpod controls but it's got a little remote so it's still convenient.

During install they pulled new speaker wire so I lost my subwoofer. The otherwise good system won't get it without some more bass.

I've searched archives and can't find how to rehook the orig subwoofer. I know there is an amp for it. I asked a custom shop and they have this blank a__ look and talk like I'm asking them to commercialize cold fusion.

I know someone posted on this several months ago. Anyone remember?

Joe,

I just went through installing an amp and rewiring the whole truck. The rear "sub" is really two 6.5 inch speakers driven by an amp that's screwed to the back of them. The problem is that it's designed to pull inputs from the stock amp, which your installers bypassed when they put in your new system. In order to get it back, you'll either need to install a new amp to drive them, or figure out what pins go where to connect up the old amp.

Yeah Roland, they are in the box in the back door (on my 95 at least).

Tate, I invested in the original elec shop manual, Think I can find it there?

Joe,

I've seen the schematic for that section, and it's ok, and I think it does get you pin locations/wire colors. You might be able to work something out by using the head unit's pre-outs.

Tate, without the specific outputs from the head unit I can't guess the conversion. Pulled the SW and one of them is torn halfway round the cone. It looks like aftermarket time as replacing the origianl looks like an "all or none" piece.

Why would you fit a new head unit without changing all your speakers? It's the factory speakers that are crap, not so much the original head unit.

regards,
Roland
