Hey Folks,
Here's the story. I purchased my 99 DII with extended wty from LR Harrisburg which is over an hour away. They will pick up my truck, leave me a Freeloaner, and perform the 60k service for just over $500 bucks.
My local dealer in Frederick, MD won't give me a loaner and wants to charge $1200 for the same 60k service!!!!! Holy sweet bastard!
How the hell can there be such an extreme difference in pricing between 2 LR dealerships?

Has anyone else experienced this?
What have others typically paid for 60k service on a DII?

Damn Jason,

I would ask each service manager what exactly is he doing for that amount of money. I am thinking the norm was around $700 for the big 30K or 60K service.

Maybe Ron Brown can chime in here to provide input from another dealer.

Holly Cow Batman...that's steep!!!

My LR dealer charges $600 for the 60K service, but they will not provide you with a service loaner unless you bought your vehicle from them. Looks like LR Harrisburg would have my business :-)

Steve,

Who do you use in NC? I bought the Pig in Cary, but now there is a dealer in Wilmington. In fact the Pig goes in for the 37K service on Tuesday.

Paul, I did ask them and their answers were exactly the same for the 60k service.

I also asked about recalibrating the ACE after the lift is installed this spring.
Harrisburg @ $70
Frederick @ $Priceless or $220

I should call Frederick back. I'm thinking if I can use their garage space (got my own killer set of tools) they'll let me do my own damn work for a 10% discount, 2 fifteen minute breaks and 5 squares of LR shit paper.

Living in a condo is convenient but the blue-hairs bitch if you even top off your washer fluid in the lot.

Paul,

I use LR Cape Fear in Wilmington also. I just left a message to you on the other post about the RH idler pulleys, but I spoke to Nicole in parts earlier this afternoon and she's got a couple of them due in on Friday.

Okay Steve,

I am giving them a call tomorrow about the loaner thing. Last time I used them, there wasn't a problem.

LOL Jason,

Sounds like you have a date with Harrisburg. I think Garrett uses them too when his Aztek is not in the shop:-)

I had to have an axle seal replaced one week after buying my disco from LR cary. they had to keep it for three days because the part wasn't in stock. asked for a loaner and was told that "we only provide loaners to people who buy new vehicles from us not pre-owned certified rovers". same problem with disco at LR Cape
Fear: gave me a brand new freelander loaner to drive in for two days knowing I would log about 400 miles due to business travel. Its amazing how different each dealer is.

Yeah, I'm all over Harrisburg. Good folks up there. I bought mine certified used and they STILL drive 80 miles one way to pick the Machine up AND leave me with a Freeloaner.

Hey Steve, An update for you:

In reference to my upcoming 37,500 mile service:

LR Cape Fear informed me that I will NOT receive a loaner because I didn't buy from them.

LR Cary informed me that even though I bought from them, I will NOT recieve a loaner because the Pig is a LR CPO.

What makes this great is that during the year I lived in Philly, LR MainLine and LR West Chester provided loaners. Isn't that nice.....

yeah jen has her D2 serviced there (LR Harrisburg). we usually go and wait there for it and they have been pretty good about stuff. their used car prices are damn high, but i don't have any other complaints with them. they do have the valet service from state college too. (3 hours round trip) they take your truck and leave you one. only if you bought from them though. hers was purchased in Florida, so a no go. actually heading to florida tomorrow via her D2.

Ok, here is what is happening. LR used to reimburse dealerships for Scheduled Maintenance services. When Ford took over, they stopped reimbursing the dealers. Ever wonder why your 7500 only cost $79? If they charged the actual price, based on dealer labor rates, it would be a lot more. When this happened, Ford told all the dealers that they couldn't radically increase prices. So dealers are no longer making money on scheduled services. They have each service set up as a "menu item," which charges a set amount for a service (like it's always $19.99 to fix a tire). Some dealers use menu pricing for a 60k, just charging the same as a 30k. HOWEVER, most dealers don't do this, because parts alone for a 60k cost WAY more than what is charged for a 30k. Instead, most dealers charge out the price of the parts, plus the number of hours required for the service x the labor rate. This amounts to somewhere between $1000 & $1200. I've heard from several people that LR Harrisburg uses the menu pricing, so I would absolutely use them. You will save a lot of money. There is no way the other area dealers will touch that price, us included.

Thanks Alyssa!
