I am getting a terrible grinding sound coming from the clutch fan on my 96 disco. When spinning, it looks to be a little unbalanced also. Belt and pully driving fan appear fine. Is this a difficult part to replace? Anyone have a write-up for this? Thanks. Ray |

Very easy to do.. To remove the fan clutch, you can use a large cresent wrench on the large nut/hub behind the clutch. You might have to hit it sharply with a rubber or composite hammer, it may take a couple of hard raps with the hammer. Then you spin the clutch off with the fan. Turn the fan over and using a 6mm hex drive socket remove the 4 bolts holding the fan to the clutch. The replacement is just the opposite. Becareful, the nuts are typically on very tight. While your at it, check you belt. If it needs replacement, now's the time to replace. As a suggestion, draw a quick picture of the belt routing before you remove it. |
