Hey everyone! It finally snowed here in the Denver area. I take the Rover ('99 DII) out for a short drive and, as I'm turning a corner, the ABS warning light, the Traction Control light, and the HDC warning light all come on simulatneously. Plus, they stayed on after I turned the vehicle off, did some shopping, and returned home. What's the deal? Anyone experience this before? I know ABS is still working, because I slid up to a stop sign and it was working (seemingly) perfectly. I suspect it may just be a problem with a sensor, since they came on rather randomly, i.e. not in response to any weird driving situation. Plus, it seems odd for all 3 of those lights to come on and stay on, yet the ABS seems to work fine. I would greatly appreciate ANY help or insight anyone could provide. Thanks in advance!

If they are staying on, the SLABS computer will definitately show a code. As you assumed most likely a sensor. Take it to a dealer or someone with Testbook.

I have had this same problem, but all three lights come on intermittantly, and will reset once I restart the truck. I have had the SLABs computer replaced twice.

All three lights come on simultaneously because they are all linked. Take it to the dealer. If you have not had it done, there is a recall regarding this very problem.

How much does it cost to get something like this repaired? John - how much was the SLABs computer? Is any of it covered by the recall? My truck is out of warrant is why I wonder. Thanks for the input!

If you haven't had the recall done, it will be free. If not, it will be $$$$$. If you give me the last 8 of your VIN, I can check if it's been claimed or not.

Thanks Alyssa! The last 8 of my VIN are: XA229084. I really appreciate your checking on this for me. Also, you said it would be $$$$ if not – how much approximately is $$$$? Thanks so much!

Oooh. Kinversand. Unfortunately you don't have any recalls open. The SLABs was most likely done at 72221 miles, since that's the last time it was in for warranty work. You would have to call your dealer to find out the price, because each dealer uses different labor rates. This is also more likely a "get it into the dealer, hook it up on testbook, & see what is wrong" kind of a fix, rather than a 100% this is your problem kind of fix.

Yeah, I agree with Alyssa, get it checked with Testbook.

When I say my computer was changed, twice, once was for the SLABS recall and again, when I had intermittant trouble with the same lights. All work was done under warranty so I don't know the cost.

Keep us posted.

Damn! Just my luck as usual. OK, I'll have to take it in sometime to have it looked over. What is Testbook? Is that a diagnostic program or something that other garages can use to diagnose problems? Do I just call some place to see if they have it?

Testbook used to only be available to actual Land Rover dealerships. They may have changed that now (I'm not 100% sure), but it is still tens of thousands of dollars to purchase, so it's very unlikely other garages will have it. Some garages use the autologic system, but I believe that for this problem, you need a genuine testbook.

Duane, I had my first SLABS unit replaced under warranty. However, at approx 57K miles, my lights came on again. Even though I was out of warranty, because the part was less than 12 months old, they replaced it free of charge. See if you can find out when the unit was replaced. Maybe you can get it replaced if it was less than a year ago.

After the first few times this happened they did the SLABS upgrade which worked for some time. The lights then started playing up again. This time they replaced the ABS modulator and a wheel sensor.
This is a very common problem, dont let them bully you into being charged for the repair, insist that they take the matter up with LRNA first.

Thanks everyone for the input thus far. Can anyone give me any idea of what these SLABs units cost?

I think the SLABs module is around $500. But I'm not certain. I just remember joking with the dealer service manager about getting a free $500 computer.
