I put in some back up lights on my rear bumper. They are wal mart lights probably 55 watts, anyways, i was wanting to hook them into the "bad weather really bright" back lights that turn on with the switch. I was going to open up my brake lights and take that light out and use the existing wires to wire up my lights. Would that work? How do i get into my brake lights. I've tried and i've even taken out the screws going up the inside of the rear post but it just wouldn't budge. Let me know what yall think. Thanks |

I hooked my Hella 500's (on roof rack) with constant power (to the relay) coming from a constant power wire that goes to the trailer hitch wiring thing, and my "switched" power is from the "bad weather lights" that you mentioned. You get to your light wiring by removing the plate on the backside of the lights (inside the disco). If you have jump seats like I do, it's a real bitch. I spliced into a wire, that I recall was purple but make sure you check first, on the passenger side rear tail light assembly. It works great. To turn on my hellas, I simply press the "bad weather lights" switch and on they come! Brendan 95 Disco |

So you hooked both up to the passenger side, was it in a loom that you had to open or was the wires already exposed. That sounds like what i'm gonna do |

I would suggest you wire it on a hotwire, cause it will enable you to use it whenever you want: * For un/loading in the dark * During recovery/rescue/repair operations * Reversing in the dark on the trail * When the loonie behind you doesn't dip his headlights... This presuppose it's legal in your area. Where I live (Norway) you can hotwire it as long as: * It can be turned/swivelled to give light in the area supposed for a working light * There's a swithch with a warning light that you WILL see if you for some reason forgot it... |

for reference its the red/yellow (stripe) wire that goes to the bad weather lights switch. To find the wire all you really have to do is take out the speaker and remove the 1 foot by 8" paneling and its in that bundle. |

Blake, I wouldn't try running 55w lights off bad rear fog circuit. I would wire them with a relay and just use the power from the rear fog curcuit to trip the relay (you would also then only need to tap into one of the wires, not both) |
