Well, its has been a good month since the rear diff and the starter went out in my 99 Dll, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. There is a low pitched whirring sound now coming from the left front end. It gets louder as I accelerate and then fades as the vehicle's speed picks up. I have 32" m/ts on now. I will place my stock rims & wheels back on with the faint hope this eliminates the sound. (Of course it won' ideas? And what should I check for when I'm changeing the rims? |

Well, DII's have been known to throw front drive shafts because the front DC joint is "non-servicable", so that could be the early noises, but it would come from the right side, not the left. But to be honest, I don't know if you'd really be able to tell what side it's really coming from. If your truck's under warranty, take it in and tell them that your getting strange noises from the front shaft. They'll probably throw a new one on. If you're out of warranty, Bill @ Great Basin Rovers sells a nice conversion kit that replaces the u-joints with stronger Spicer units that are greasable, and he also includes a grease fitting for the splines. The whole thing is less than $100. |

Thanks Greg. I will try to check it out today. The vehicle is under warranty, but my personal problem is that the nearst dealer is 300 miles away. I knew this would be inconvinent when I purchased the vehicle. I just didn't realize how often it would be a problem. Any other ideas on possible problems? |
