Some jack... has a very nice 16" five spoke alloy wheel courtesy of my DII. My spare was lifted last night.

Does anyone have a good source for vandal proof wheel locks (particularly for the spare)? I guess the crooks have copies of all the standard auto-supply grade wheel locks (at least they had mine). I’ve looked at the on the Atlantic British site, but am concerned they are a universal key – anyone can buy the same kit and run free with Land Rover wheels.

I think for now its going to be a $100 steely (instead of the $300 alloy) that rides on my rear gate.

Thanks in advance for any insight and allowing me to vent-

You can buy one that locks with a key as opposed to the McGuard socket ones. Those have more combinations, so I doubt the thieves would pick the lock as easily. Then again it's just a regular FAB lock. The problem with these is that the lock gets dirty (just like your tailgate lock) and then it's hard to open but I'm sure some preventive maintenance or a lilttle plastic/rubber cover for it will solve that problem.

No one will like this, but run a chain throught the wheel to (and through) the receiver hitch. Cheap, effective, and ugly as all get out.

well I use something similar, but I use one of those big oversized bike lock type things from Lowes and I just wrap it through the wheel and around the spare tire carrier, not the trailer hitch. If anyone wants it they can get it no matter what I might do to it but at least they would have to work a little harder.

Like Carter, I bought a heavy duty bike cable lock for about $20 and wrapped thru & around the tire and tire carrier.
