I have a 97 Disco. Yesterday after I started (hot) my car, a loud Squealing noise was coming from the engine. I think that a bearing was out of place in either the alternator, waterpump or idler arm? I started it this morning and there was no noise. I think that a bearing was out of place and worked its way back, but I don't know. I just hope it isn't my water pump. Jill |

definitly check the water pump. let it get hot and look under the hood. most water pumps have a weep hole that will leak water to let you know the pump is failing. get it fixed. cost me an arm and a leg when i ignored this in the past on my jeep wrangler. ended up w/ a blown head gasket. could have been alot worse. just my $.02 |

I second Gary's advice. I would suspect the water pump. Wishful thinking that a bearing worked its way back into place. Check the pulley attached to the water pump when the car is running (do not get too close and approach it from a 90 degree angle -- opposite the path of the serpentine belt. I would guess the pulley is wobbling. |
