Regearing next week and doing new tires, just bought 15" steel rims. Any thoughts on 33x9.5s or 33x10.5s? I have a 2.5" RTE lift and will trim/hack to fit. Any pics of such a setup? |

33x12.5x15 If your hacking, might as well make it worth it! |

I'm installing 4.75 gears next weekend. I really like 33x9.5s on other rigs, just havent seen them on a disco. Would love to see some pics of folks with this size or similar. Dont like wide (12.5) tires. Just a preference |

Roger I agree with staying thin. Big and wide has been the rage for a while and looks better, but tall and thin is what my offroading friends and I have found to be more productive. Just to be clear though I'm the only one who drives a disco and I've only had it for one month. All our collective experience is with jeeps, maybe that makes a differance, I don't know but we have all come to the conclution that tall and thin is the way to go for perfomance. |

Roger, Just a curiousity question: why 4.75? Unless you have plans for 35" or larger tires, is this ratio really a good idea for hwy driving? I'd think that 4.10s would be a better choice in order to keep the RPMs in the right range. From what I understand, the 4.75s are a bit weaker than the 4.10s. Again, no disrespect, just simply curious. |

I thought about 4.1 vs 4.75s for awhile. The 4.75s are from GBR (someone will correct me, as someone else makes them I'm sure, but good enough) and are different from the 4.7 or 4.77 (not sure which )that are 'stock' series and are a weaker R&P. Strength aside, I am rather disappointed with the lack of 'pep' in the Disco. With 33s and 4.1s its just too close to stock, wanted lower. Also found them used, so it worked out. I'll post a msg next weekend after I get them in on seat of the pants feel for 'pep' vs high RPM revving. I dont mind maxing at 70mph (3000rpm with 33s and the new ratio), thats a good upper speed, at least I'll get to 70 quicker and have a chance of holding 70 up a small hill with 4 people and a rack of stuff. |

Guys, the GBR 4.75 are weaker by design as we all know, however, they have less teeth that are thicker (dunno if that is better), and they are better made. If your sticking to 33"s and wanna have a stock feel, then go with 4.1s. With that said, I am running 32"s with series 4.7s, and will be running 37"s (fingures crossed) with GBR 4.75s in a couple of months. So I am not really practicing what I am preaching. As for tire width, I think it has to be proportional. At 33" tall, anything from 9.5 to 12.5 will work, depends for what. If you need floatation, the wider the better. The MT/R 37x12.5 that I have my eyes on are proportional in the sense that if I need hight (clearance), I can run them at~20 psi, and if I need floatation (mud/snow/sand) I can bring them down to ~8 psi. It depends on where you wheel and whether or not it is a daily driver. The Disco I am talking about will be tending towards a comp. vehicle, as I will be getting my hands on another Disco for overlanding and daily driving... |
