I was looking at a kit on AB's web site that has everything I need for fitting the US 7 pin socket to my disco I... has anybody else used this kit? comments would be welcomed.... I looked in the archives and could only find info about 4 pin electrics...

Please help :-)

Hello again James,

I bought that kit from AB for my previous disco I, works great, just it plug in and go. The kit is expensive, and you could probably just purchase the wiring converter/harness from them if you don't need the hitch and ball, which is way overpriced, get hitch and ball at wally world for fraction of cost. I'm sure there are much cheaper ways to convert the wiring, but the AB kit is very convenient.

Hello again...

Just been looking at the kit again... if I add up the wiring sections of the kit it comes to over $100 without the ball etc.... but the kit is $120.. do you think I should go with this? Did you use the 7 pin or the 4 flat? one last thing should I get the 2" drop or the 4"... I think I recall in the manual that its says maximum 3" of drop.... :-)

I know its alot to spend for this I just think it will be alot cleaner than using wire taps and stuff...

I would then get the whole kit, I went with a 2" drop, which worked great for towing a ski boat. You could get different length drops at wally world if you need a different length later. I got the 7 pin kit, and bought a 7 pin to 4 pin flat plug wire at wally world, so I had both if I needed it.

Real easy, instructions included in kit, simple as plug and play. If memory serves me right, there is an access panel of some sorts in the passenger side trunk area right by the tail lights, open up the panel and there will be a trailer socket, plug the new wiring harness into the socket, and that is it, you can just leave the harness loose in the rear bin area when not in use, and then pull the wire out and run it out between the rear door when using it.
