I have a 96 Disco, it has a constant whining noise comming from transfer case. I'm told its cuz it has a gear drive trans case, its not terribly loud just always there...checked and changed lube, just to be safe. It didn't have a lot of metal on the drain plug...just a little. Is this normal? |

It is normal, to have some metal flakes. Did the fluid change help with the noise? |

I've been looking into this for several months. General consensus is it is normal. I can tell the tcase by slightly letting up on the throttle to zero thrust and it goes away. The rest is tire noise. Some posts say Royal Purple or other syn lube helps or works. Doubtful it'll stop it but can't hurt. Someone posted that it was an option called MILS. (Mother-in-law silencer) |
