Anyone has experiences with Jacobs Ignition Controls on a Range Rover V8?

The only person I know who did a Jacobs declared it junk after several conversations with the company and sent it back. Maybe someone here has had a better experience. Why not look at something a bit more popular like the MSD 6 (marine or offroad versions) or the Crane HI-6.

Good luck,

I've heard similar comments from former Jacobs users for LRs too!

I read good and bad comments on the net about both(MSD and Jacobs system)

At this page:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Show/2505/ignition.html
the guy had problems with stock Lucas electronic pickup and MSD.
If I choose MSD, maybe I have to change the OEM pickup to an aftermarket one.
A Pertonix for example.
A Pertonix module for this distributor(35DM8) costs ~$120+shiping+coil.
Off course if I use an MSD box, I won't need the pertronix coil, but I want a backup ignition under my hood. It can be useful on the trail.
The pertronix is 100% compatible with the MSD, and has a good reputation.

Maybe I won't need another pickup, because the SD1 guy have problems with 35DLM8 dizzy. This dizzy has an amlifier attached directly to the distributor body, close to the pickup, and the rotor.
I have a Lucas 35DM8 with external(large metal) amplifier module at the fender, under the coil.

Atlantic Britsh sell a Jacobs kit for Rover V8 engines.
If they sell it, it should be compatible with the stock ignition.
Or not?

Hi!
I found, Crane Cams has a system wich is comaptible with Lucas ignitin, and uses stock pickup.
I'll buy a Crane Ignition.

Let us know how it works. I was looking at that system last summer. They have a version specified for off-road use that is sealed and potted. Is that the one your going to get?

Yes, the HI-6R.
The coil may be not as waterproof as the box.
I will see.

I plan to buy this stuff summer.
Before this, I have to change pistons etc.
