My mechanic told me I'm losing refrigerant from my evaporator. He had preformed a leak test using dye and found a leak. Wondering about what to expect with repair costs, parts and labor (how many hours). Who would have a good deal on a evaporator? Would like to get an idea of what is involved from the DWeb community. By the way, never did ask him where the evaporator is located...where is it?
Thanks in Advance
Cheers Brian

Marcel
The 4-60 A/C is ok for some days. But, for those really HH&H days of New York, it's nice to have it working.

Mine quit on me last summer on a 102deg day....truck was VERY unhappy sitting in traffic jams....
Darn if I haven't forgotten what its called but I had to replace the little "radiator" that sits in front of the engine's radiator. Comes with dryer and two fans$700 abp-plus new refrigerant etc

Evaporator leaks are expensive. A new evaporator, expansion valve, and receiver drier (the recommended set of parts in that case) will run over $1,000.

However, evaporator failure is rare. I'd be sure you're right about the source of the leak.

I would venture to say less than 1% of our Disco AC repairs are evaporators, and we fix lots.

I agree with the statement from John. I have NEVER had and evap leak in a D1. Be carful who you get this info from. Many repair places state it is the evap leaking if they cannot find a leak anywhere else. The evap is the one part of the system they cannot see so that is what they blame it on.

In many other types of vehicles evaporators fail quite often but that is the one thing rover created that doesn't seem to leak. I have a friend that makes a living doing evap in dodge products all day long. Actually A/C repairs to the cooling unit side of the system are quite rare in the series 1 disco and i can say i have only done as many as i could count on one hand. I would get a second and maybe third person to look at it before the expense of and the evap repair.

I have a similar problem, but my mechanic suggested the condenser was bad. Is this the same thing as an evaporator? (I am in Australia)
I was quoted about $1000 depending whats wrong.
Any help appereciated.

Thanks for all the info. The mechanic I use is one I use on a regular basis. I'll get a hold of him again and double check. Maybe in this case I'll get a second opinion.

Anton...the condensor and evaporator are two different units. And now from what I read A/C repair is very expensive.
