Hi,I am owner of Defender 90 300 Tdi and I am carryng out the job of overhaul of rear differential them,therefore I would want to know wich tool I must use for the control of the bearing pre-load adjustment? Thank you. James |

Hi,Ron and thank you for the indication of site d-90.com;but me it seems that the installation of the pinion of differential them with the relative control of the bearing pre-load adjustment,not is. Therefore they are still to the search of the information of the tool to use. James |

Preload on pinion bearing should be around 1" pound rotating freely without the Ring gear carrier in the case. Preload on the carrier is just something you develop over time... Typically you get the carrier in the third member and take the slack out of it so that its tight in the bearings. Then walk the carrier into the pinion till you have 0 backlash. Then crank the one nut in until you achieve the proper backlash. That will set your carrier bearing preload to where it should be... Kyle |
