my service engine light has illuminated for no apparent reason. does anyone have any idea why this might occur? "service" engine, not "check" engine....it's red, not orange, and it's solid, not blinking. the hand book does not explain this very well. thanks in advance for your help. |

http://www.discoweb.org/reset/index.htm Check out this article to reset the light. As for the why it on, it is an interval reminder that turns on at 52,500 miles and 105000 miles to tell you to have your emission system checked. The check is insure that the system doesn't leak and the o2 sensors are working and all emissions parts are in working order. If you have bad mileage or have had problems with state emmisions tests, you should get a service manual, or take the truck to a dealer, and get the truck checked out. When mine came on at 105000 on my 95 d1, I knew the emission stuff was fine as my state (UT) does emission tests and the results were well in tolerance. Also my truck makes about 17 mpg highway, so wasn't worried and reset my light. However, I did double check all my emission hoses and the connectors related to the sensor for problems to be sure everything was okay. When in doubt check the service manual. |

If its a disco 1, go to the tech section here and click on FAQ. I believe there is a photo "how to" for the service engine light. I have done it on my 97 disco. My LR owners manual says this about the light.... "Emissions maintenance reminder" I believe that it is set to go off at certain intervals. |

just did mine for the 3rd time this time at 118k miles. i guess my odometer is really off. it's set to turn on every 52,500 miles. btw, a GLOCK armorers tool (3/32" punch) will do the trick |

Is this procedure the same for a 99 Disco II? |
