Took my 97 Disco in for 60K service and now I have a problem. After three years of using Bosch platinum 4 sp's on my 97 Disco which always started in half a crank even in cold weather, the engine cranks many times before starting. Dealer replaced the Bosch with LR plugs. I thought it was the plugs so I changed it back to a new set of Bosch. But truck does not start in one crank any more. When it does after several cranks, the startup is weak for a few seconds. Dealer is puzzled. Happens on cold start on mornings and after cooling for a few hours. Anyone has any idea what might be causing this?
Thanks.

Maybe the battery is not holding enough charge and/or your alternater is dying.

I'd guess what Dave said as far as battery goes or something with fuel delivery/pressure.

I have a similar problem. Doesn't start on first try most of the time and i have to pump the gas a little as I start it then a rough idle for 10-20 seconds (probably due to slight flooding). It will eventually lead to problems with my cats if I keep pumping it like this so this weekend I'm doing my regular maintenance and such. I got a fuel filter and will replace that too. I'll let you know if it works. If it's got a consistant crank out of the starter then no prob with the battery. Check your fuel pump and filter.

Leaking injectors, dirty idle air control valve, coolant temperature sensor, wires, fuel temp sensor...
