I have been told my ECU is fried. My alarm goes off at all times, doors won't lock/unlock together, truck won't start with key but will with remote starter. Where is a good place to get a cheap one and is it a DIY job? Thanks

I'm not sure I'd give up just yet.

What happens if you pull the alarm fuse? Make sure you have a window open in case you can't unlock the doors!

If the alarm goes off all the time, it could be something like a switch or sensor stuck. Is the alarm controlled by the engine ECu, or the Body ECU?

I'm not having the best of luck this week with electrical gremlins (damned Range Rovers!) and don't have my ETM handy, so I could be completely wrong.

D'Oh, as for an ECU, I sometimes see them on eBay.

Peace,
Paul

Paul,
Thanks for the info. Is the alarm fuse under the steering wheel? I also sank my truck in a stream so I think that the water did not help the situation. I'm so tired of these damn gremlins!!! Last problem I had, I could not turn the truck off. I would take the key out and the damn thing kept running. These trucks.....

James:
And all of these problems are occurring with a fairly low-tech '95!

When you drowned your truck, did you tear it apart to dry it out? You may have a circuit bridged somewhere that is causing this to occur.

I'll try to get my ETM out and see how this is all related, as I'm not sure which fuse does what without a cheat sheet. Check you owners manual for your fuse locations. You are also probably going to have to disconnect the ECU to clean the contacts if you got it wet.
