Well spring is almost here & I am determined to fix the 2 problems that plague my 96 disco 70k when the outside temp goes up. They both seem to happen in conjunction with eachother & are intermittent problems...they don't happen all the time & hopefully are an easy fix.
1. Maybe once a month after turning the truck off when it is 80 or above and waiting 15-20 minutes (enough time to run in a store or something) the truck won't start. It cranks like crazy but won't start. Take the key out wait a minute...starts right up. Nuts.
2. Once again when it is over 80 outside & I come to a stop after driving for a while the idle drops very low...almost stalling. I pop it into neutral & give a little gas which fixes the problem. I can put it back in gear & it is fine.
I'm thinking maybe leaking fuel injector? Maybe electrical? New plug wires? Dirty TB? The dealer told me that they need to clean the "flame traps" for like a million dollars. Please help any suggestions would be great.

Mine does the same - I'm a little worried as we approach 100+ in the next couple of months.

i assume both of yall have a disco with a distributor on it?

check the ignition module (ignition amplifier) isnt going bad, check that the ground on the ignition coil is good. the module i think is located under or next to the coil on a disco. on my range rover it is screewed onto the side of the distributor.

The ground on the coil is the distributor, via the lead between the "-" terminal on the coil and the ignition module on the distributor.

I believe that mine does not have a distributor (would be alot easier if it did). 96 disco 4.0? Correct me if I am wrong?? I am also thinking that this is electrical. I might get some magnacore wires and see what happends.

You should also think about changing the air in your tires. Get out that old nasty winter air and put in some freash summer air.

Your dead on, Joseph; no distributor for you.

I had the same problems on my '97 a couple of years ago. It was a bad MAFS and was replaced under warranty. I've not had the problems since. Hope this helps some.

Other than that the part was faulty I'm not sure how to explain it logically. It just worked. To be honest I thought it might be the stepper motor, but it wasn't. Other than the dealer I'm sure some of the vendors sell them. Good luck!

I was hoping for some insight on this as well, it just warmed up here and my 96 started doing this. Seems it can be 2 things: MAF or IAC. However, neither is tripping the Check Engine light / no stored codes.

Rather than just replacing parts, what troubleshooting or further diagnosis can I do?
