Is it possible to attached a roof access ladder to a range rover classic (1991)? And if so how is it done, what do they look like, ane where do I find one? Thanks, Cneal |

http://www.rangerovers.net/rraccessories.htm#rack4 there is a ghetto RR 2 there with a ladder, that's probably the only way you could do it unless you came off the side. rd |

I have heard that the old camel trophy range rover classics had one, but have never seen it. I am not sure how it would be attached. The newer style 4.0's attach to the rear window frame, but there is just not enough support for this in a classic. I just open the tailgate, close the window and use the tailgate as a step. |

Alan, No dice on the CT RR Classics. Attached is a photo of a rather complete '86 example with no ladder. Thanks, Nathan Hindman http://www.pangaea-expeditions.com

I've thought about building some sort of pull out ladder that would be housed under my rack that could be pulled out and rested against the rear bumper. I haven't done anything yet, I'm still dropping the gate and climbing from there. |

How would you make one come off the side? Would it be a permanent fixture or removable? Nathen, have you all started your range rover classic project yet? Would love to see some pictures. Cneal. |

Nathan, No dice hey? I knew I had seen it somewhere, pulled out an old Land Rover World Mag from Sep 2002, had an article about the 87 camel trophy rrc and pics of a restored original. Here are some scanned pics from the article, as you can see there is a rear ladder, looks like it is attached to the roof rack and bumper. Alan I really hate the max picture sizes that we can upload, they need to increase it.

All of the 1987 Camel trophy range Rovers had Ladders on them. I've contacted Safety Devices and trevor says they did not make them nor do they know who did. I am presently working on having them re-made for a classic. Some had the second piece that bolted to the tailgate but most only had the piece that went on the glass top. On my present rack system ( currently for sale) I have a rear ladder that unbolts with wing nuts and attaches to either side of my rack for easy access to the top. See www.ozziesoffroad.com the Blue 93 LWB. I think if I made a run of these ladders they'd sell. What do you guys think? Ozzie |

Why do you need a ladder? We have tailgates for that? Larry |

LOL, that's what i was thinking.. seems like it would be a pain in the ass to use. the side one , i would held a sleeved pipe over the side of the roof rack, the later welded to this pipe so it could flip down and rest againts the side of a tire. at least in my head thats what makes sense rd

we carry a small 4 step aluminum ladder on our rack. it helps to get the boxes off the front vs standing inside. usually just stand on the tailgate to get stuff off from the rear. |

I seem to have sparked a little controversy here. I want the ladder so that I don't have to use my tailgate. Every time I pull something off of my rack using the tailgate I either drop it or scrape it on the window. Ease of access is what I'm looking for. On the Camel Trophy Rovers, how did the tailgate and window lift operate with the ladder in place? Did they have to remove the ladder before the tailgate and window were opened? Cneal. |

I think DAP used to carry one that rotated down from the side that was part of a roof rack (been a few years though) but I don't see it on their website now. I think it was Brit made (Bearmach?). |

"How to get to a RR on a RR" "Unlock tailgate, then open the glass section, then the metal section. After that, close the glass section in the same manner you originally opened it. Step up on the open metal, you are now within reach of the RR from your RR" Guys, sorry for the anal sarcasm, didn't have my coffee yet! |

Just as an "aside" question, did LR originally design the RRC tailgate to handle the weight routeinly of say the average person using it as a step to roof access? Has anyone experienced anything bending or loosening on the tailgate support structure as a consequence of using the tailgate as a "step"? |

have been using mine for over 5 years now without any appearance of problems. had the entire tailgate skin off for rust repair and the side plus bottom hinges were fine. we lift many heavy things on and off the rack including filled 5 gallon water and gas cans, totally full Pelli cases, etc.. don't know what the design criteria was, yet, seems to be ok. Interesting Jamie. I've yet to read any warnings from LR about standing or putting weight on the rear tailgate (unless I missed reading something)..so maybe they designed it to do just that...namely use it as a step? |

LOL... i don't think a disco owner needs a ladder, let alone rangie classic. i think a ladder needs to join the "poseur accessory" category. "I don't do expeditions, but I could if I wanted to" where's that coffee... peter |

Hey watch it Peter.... Im so short I can barely reach the roof while standing on the tailgate! Screw the ladder, I'm thinking elevator! Wheres that beer...
