I heard/read somewhere that the D2 had that recall re: "whining tensioner pulley" due to the cheap plastic construction. Is this applicable to the D1? Is the replacement D2 pulley, which is apparently made of steal this time, compatible with the D1? My 99 D1 started the tensioner pulley whine and it's very annoying. Instead of replacing it with the same plastic crap, does anyone know if I can use the D2 unit? -better yet, would it be covered under that same recall? Thanks! -Glenn (I'm almost positive it won't be under recall but it's worth a shot... ) |

Glenn: I don't know if it was a recall, but there is a TSB on the DI that indicates a replacement of the bearing and the belt. Depending upon how many miles you have on your truck, it may well be worth it to put a new bearing in the pulley. NAPA P/N 6203-2RSJ (IIRC) shouldn't cost more than $6-$8 and takes 15 minutes to swap. I spent a bunch of money trying to fix this noise... |

Duh, nothing like only answering half the question... Instead of replacing it with the same plastic crap, does anyone know if I can use the D2 unit? My '95 has a metal tensioner pulley. I'm not sure about the DII. You might look for one from an earlier DI. As usual, the tensioner is made by a US manufacturer and almost certainly identical to somebody else's (read-cheaper) part. |

Paul, Thanks for the part numbers. I guess I'm off to NAPA tomorrow. I have a 99D1 but from what I can tell,(based on feeling behind my tensioner pulley) I think it's plastic. Anyway, it has 66K miles and the serpentine belt has about 7K on it. Again, thanks for the advise. Glenn |

I just re-read my post from last night, my tensioner pulley is metal, but when you feel behind it, it's definitely plastic. lol...don't want to mislead anyone thinking that the tensioner pulley is plastic. hehehe...must've been the pre-st. patrick guiness i've had last night. Glenn O'Guinto |
