Recently, I purchased a service manual in CD form on Ebay. It is pretty worthless for anything other than wiring. I just started working on this car myself and am looking for a "user friendly" manual. Is there one that is better than another?

I bought my hardback manual directly from Hanes in England. Total with shipping was about $25 US but I think the exchange rate is a little higher now. Distibutors here sell it for $30-50 if you can find it.

The hanes manual is great but does not go into thorough detail about some things. My next purchase will be the 1300 page manual for $130 from Bentley:

http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=YRW5&subject=11 (some places sell it for $100).

They also have an engine overhaul manual for all petrol Land Rover's for $55:

Gary,

D1 or D2? I broke down and spent the $70 for the 95/98MY Workshop Manual for my D1. Probably the best investment you could make for your Rover.

Also do a search on the web for Land Rover manuals. You can find a lot of them (TCase Rebuild, 4.0/4.6 Rebuild, etc.) on the web if you spend an hour or two on Google.

Gary- Check here for genuine service manuals:
4x4connection

or try Ebay here: Ebay Site

Todd-I believe this Ebay site also has the Bentley Manuals manual you mentioned but for about $80.00. I have purchased manuals from him and the price, shipping and selection was very great.

I got a set of CD's that are the service manuals in Adobe Acrobat. Covers all makes and models from 1983-2003. Got the set for around $80. I might be willing to make copies.....

Snowman,

That's the same manual and about the same price that I paid ... end up getting mine out of Oz, though.

I agree with Gary about the CD ROM from EBay. It sucks! Don't waste your money on that one.
