Good day (night?) all. I am planning to lift my 1997 300 Tdi about 2", and has recently been looking at options available. Ironically, these are so many (for the similar prices), I am not able to decide with my resctricted knowledge of the subject. I do believe this has been discussed back and forth on this forum already. However, I will really appreciate a brief listing of pros and cons of below listed setups (both city and off-road use, occasionally very rough off-road use, no winch, some occasional towing): King Springs + Bilsteins TJM springs + Bilsteins Old Man EMU setup Tough Dog setup TJM setup Thanks in advance for the input. I went w/ the OME HD setup. My 96 Disco is my daily driver (300+ miles / week) and currently has not winch or bar. I do occasionally tow and enjoy some fairly rough off-road use half-dozen times or so per year. I absolutely love the setup. The HD springs give a pretty firm ride, but I have never been a fan of a truck with a car-like drive. The truck has a higher stance and is more comfortable with some of the climbs it does. When I do load it up, I still have good angles. The job was easy to do on a weekend, there were no other mods needed and it's a solid, proven modification. Hi Boris I like the RTE 3" springs, The front are a sacked set with a 1" spacer and give a wonderful ride with a winch and a big bumper... The rears only give a nice ride when loaded for camping..perhaps an additional 400-600 pounds, depending on how long we intend to stay out.. Otherwise they are bouncy but not totally unpleasent.. Hey Lawrence you're not the Beowulf from another LR BBS relative to 110's I've been reading are you? |

Thanks for the answers. Very informative. Has anyone got an experience with Tough Dog springs and shocks (made by 4 Ways)?.. Boris

Hi, Keith...nope, the Disco is my only Rover right now (though I'm trying to convince the wife how great a 101 FC would be for camping)... -Lawrence |

Boris, go for Rovertym. I have RTE 3" with Rancho 9000's, and have never had a better time (on-road or off). Even with both sway bars taken off, the RTE springs and Ranchos give a very pleasant ride. John at Rovertym will help you custom-tailor a lift kit that will suit your every need. I was originally a Safari Gard fan, but have been totally sold on Rovertym. Check them out: www.rovertym.com Best- Zach |

Boris Dont know where you are (could be Oz by the brands?) but I will mention my setup for your consideration. I have 97 300tdi. I have used rangie spares springs ... and OME shocks. Front are 16.5" 170lbs and rear 18" 220lbs. This has given me (with the OME shocks) a comfortable ride round town with load carrying capacity for the camping I do. See some info here http://www.comcen.com.au/~blumx/Springs.htm Good luck ... its always basically personal preferance. John |

i have a 95 disco and i already ordered a OME HD spring and shock set. i was told that i would have to upgrade the rear rotoflex with a D2 shaft and pinion. i was wondering if this was true and if so how long can i run my rotoflex before i would start to go bad. |

Hi, Mike. My roto went about 6-7 months after installing the OME lift on my 96. The roto (which was put on new when I first bought the truck) had a little over 1 year on it already at that point, so I don't know if the failure was caused by the lift or not. When I went to replace it, there were enough compelling reasons (damage to the current shaft + cost) that I just ordered the u-joint conversion kit from Atlantic British. $350 and several hours worth of cursing later, I'm very happy w/ the switch. A basic OME HD lift with no extra weight on the truck (bar, sliders, etc) does create enough of a change in the angle that I can see how it might lead to earlier failures of the roto. My original intnetion was still to keep the roto since it's more field-servicable, but the prop shaft damage changed the story completely. Lawrence |

No, I'm not in NZ or Australia. It's Israel. So, basically, what I listed above is what's available. This far, I'm tending to prefer the King Springs (they are the ones manufacturing the OME springs) and Bilsteins, unless somebody gives some very positive input on Tough Dog setup. Does anybody use them?.. Thanks again. Boris |

Hi Boris - Im in NZ Tough dog are fairly popular down here however it is the shocks that are the important thing and I went for Rancho 9000 and will not regret it - the springs I used are KIWI made - but that is no use to you! |

if you decide to go the OME HD way, with OME shocks, what else besides 4 OME springs and 4 OME shocks do you need to have everything working well? also, how much lift will this setup yeild? |

Lift measurements are in the tech section. OME HD setup will usually give about 1.5" or so. I ran this from 1998-2003 heavy off road use. The only reason I changed was for a bit more lift without spacers. The OME springs and HD shocks really do work extremely well. I did a comparision of the OME and rovertym that was posted about a week ago, including measurements. |

Got my Tough Dog Heavy Duty set today (2" lift). Will be installing tomorrow morning, and post some pictures "before" and "after". Performance comparing to standard suspension will be reported as well, after I get some taste of it this weekend. Thanks to all. Boris |

Here in France a local shop decided to order every single springs and shocks available on the market. for a 2 to 3 inches lift, they choose : procomp es 9000 (+ 3 inches long) + Bearmach heavy duty rear springs (+2 inches) (for front and rear !) that is what i am going to fit on my 300 tdi discovery along with 245/75/16 BF muds. yours |

OK, this is the final result... Pictures show both 'before' and 'after' the lift. This far, from the short trip home from the workshop, the ride quality is great despite the low weight of the truck. No need to add heavy bumpers, even with the Heavy Duty springs.
