I was looking into getting a replacement winch bumper (Rovertym Slim Line Bumper) but already have a brush guard. Does anyone know if it is possible to cut and wield the brush guard to the Rovertym slim line winch bumper? As anyone done this before?

Carl

#2 on Ho's list is a Rovertym slim line with A-bar and light brackets and I love it, it is very solid and looks great and the cabs in chicago don't cut me off in Chicago anymore :-)

Hey Ross,

I was checking out your very nice pics.....Is your water wash reservoir still located in the original spot? If so: Do you have a cover for it or plan to manufacture one? Did this location of the reservior interfere with the installation of the RTE?

Thanks,

Paul Morgan

I talked to John (from Rovertym) and he said that I could weld my brush guard to a slim line. (I am going to cut the brush guard to fit the slim line.) I am hopefully going to order it at lunch today.

Paul, it doesn't interfere, but if you are going to leave it, then you should protect it. Kirk built a diamond plate protection for his and he is sending me a photo, I'll send you a copy.

Way to go Carl congrats. I did the install in one afternoon all by myself with a floor jack and 2 stands, have some wood planks handy to set the bumper on the jack to get a leg up on lifting the bumper into place.

I just got Ho to update my gallery and there are 3 new Bumper pic's at the top.

Paul
YES YES YES I will get my lazy ass to move the water bottle in a bit (after the move when I got a garage)I will locate it on the passenger side of the firewall. The water bottle doesn't get in the way of the installation what so ever.

Cool, Thanks Ross.

I am waiting for a call any day now for my RTE. Since I live only 4 hours from JBS, I am going to drive up.

After looking again. My prediction is that when Ross puts on some bigger tires and stuffs that bad boy real nice , it will grab that part thats too long cause it was designed for the D1 and bend it straight down.
The section of fender at the front of the opening is shorter on a D2 then it is on a D1 therefore you get this.

Cmon John , now you know that wasnt right....lol

Kyle:

The shadow play on that pic makes the protrusion look longer than it really is. Yes there is one no doubt about that but I don't think it will come into play.

And about in bending down, Not a chance that thing is so strong that with the tires aired down for offroading there is no way it will go twisty.

Good eye though and nice catch.

Ross

P.S. And Ron you are right, if it is a problem a bit of cut and pasting will fix it.

Interesting point Kyle. Looking at that picture, it looks like the wing is 1" too long + / - 1/8" due to picture clarity.

Ross, never under estimate what a stuffed tire under a load condition can do to metal structures.

Carl,

There's not quite enough room for the brush bar on the rovertym slimline (I'm talking D2 here, btw) since it doesn't stick out quite far enough. Don't know about the D1. You might get away with a small extension plate or bolt it on.

Thanks Ross, that skid plate view on the far right is exactly the one I wanted to see!!! Perfect!

I just looked out the window at my truck and my RTE ends precisely at the edge of the wheel well. Looks like its factory tied into the wheel well arch.

Paul, lemme know if you need any pointers on moving your washer bottle. It's very easy and you could have that done before you even pick up your bumper.

Do I have to move the washer bottle when putting the slim line bumper on a D2?

Yes. Well not immediately it can sit there fine for a while but you'd better move it before wheeling.

Does anyone know of another company that makes a replacement front bumper with a full brush bar other then rovertym and safari gurd. I like the slim-like design of those and wouldn't want an ARB or TJM. Anyone have any idea if there is even a place that does?

Thanks
Marcel

Does anyone have an alternate solution to washer bottle relocation for a D2? I've seen the tech article by Dean Brown, but that location on my D2 is already occupied by an air compressor. Where does the $G kit put the bottle?

Yes Richard there is an alternatie. Some folks have had guards made from diamond plate. It is an option I am exploring right now, jsut waiting to see pics from a friend in our Phily Rovers Group. I will ask him to post them here.
