Just went to get lunch and noticed that my battery light is now staying on upon start up. It goes off after either a few minutes driving or a few minutes idling. Has not done this before, usually extinguishes moments after start up. Batter is a fairly new (less than 6 mo) Optima Red Top. Serp belt routed correctly. Stock alternator with 106k miles. 95 DI. Is it a sign alternator is on way out? Thanks! |

Put a voltage regular on the battery. The battery should be sitting at 12.5 volts or so before startup and go on up to something greater than 13.4 volts when first running. The batter light comes on when the voltage on the system is too low (like a bad battery, failing alternator, or loose electrical connections). Thanks, Mike B. |
