Does anyone elses D1 do this. Upon cranking to start, my disco starts immediately however it seems to 'diesel' (like when you turn off some cars and they keep chugging)for a quick second or two then goes into clean idle. Very strange to me but maybe it's not getting enough gas at the beginning. Any thoughts from the gurus?

John

My D1 does something simalar.. it starts revs drop to about 500 then it goes back up to 1200 revs until it is warm.... I dont know why yet but I am going to have the dealer take a look at the next service.

maybe one of your plugs isn't firing at first? How do the plugs look?

Plugs are fine. It's been doing it for about 15000 miles now...through two plug changes. I'm not too concerned about it just thought I would see if other D1's do it. James, mine starts right up and idles evenly but its the clunk, dieseling for a second that confuses me.

You mean a really rough idle for a few moments then its fine?
in my experience that happens incars with hydraulic tappets when left for a period of time, and the oil drains out.
Noticed it on both my wifes Volvo and my Disco...

Mine does it too, usually if i give it a little gas it smooths out. i've noticed it happens when only leaving it off for a few mins as opposed to overnight. ideas?
