I'm looking for opinions on the best shock out there. I dont do a whole lot of off roading, so i'm not worried about that. I have the Genuine Land Rover Discovery Series I brush bar with a Warn XD9000i and my tires are 245/75/16 M/T's so i want to make sure that it supports everything. But i want a shock that has the smoothest ride possible b/c i do a lot of distance driving and want a smooth ride. Somebody help me! |

For your type of driving, I would do OME....i have heard good things about Bilsteins though. Do you have stock springs? or are you lifted already |

Just did OME HD front & rear with OME NF45 front shocks and OME NF46 rear shocks from EE. The ride is very good. very close to stock as far as comfort on bumps at highway speeds only without the body roll. I do a lot of highway and a lot of rutted dirt roads daily as this is my work vehicle and was worried about a harsh ride but John at EE recomended this and I am very pleased. I would recomend this set-up to anyone plus the 2" lift is nice. Gabe |

are you replacing the springs too or just shocks? if you can do both while you are in there do it. how many miles on the truck? can't go wrong with OME all around. don't go with MD's springs though with that winch up front. your shocks are not "supporting" your front end......your springs are. i would go with HD's up front and MD's or HD's in the back. contact EE or any other good OME dealer and talk to them about your setup. and Matt......what do you mean by medium OME shocks? we talking springs i am assuming. |

How much money are we talking about spending on new springs and all new shocks all around? |

I installed bilstein shocks all around last summer and have been very satisfied. The ride is firmer but far from being stiff. I like the way D1 handles better than original (handles more like my commuter car, especially on turns and curves). It was not too difficult with jack stands and 2 floor jacks. I did not change any springs which are separate from the shocks (would have been much more difficult if coils were integrated with shocks).

I'm thinking about going with the northwestparts [+2"] springs but not sure on what shocks I want. I am kinda skeptical about their $40 shocks. Bilsteins usually run about $70 each and OME's are normally $60-70. I asked Fox if they had anything for the Disco and they suggested the Stage II kit ($1490) from Safarigard. I've been reading my Land Rover Enthusiast (UK) magazines and there seems to be dozens of shock and spring options that I can't find available in the US. |

OME shocks are in and I am very happy. Overall the truck has a more firm ride, better steering responce, and less body lean. I used the meduim duty shocks on an unmodified 99 DII |

garrett. OME springs and shocks all around is about $550. but then once you get new shocks/springs on you will want bigger tires. then you will want a bigger winch and better bumper setup. then of course you will want sliders.....new rack...lights, more lights. you see how it goes....... so overall it will REALLY cost you $3-4K. |

Ya, then after all that you are going to look at your truck and want more lift for even bigger tires and so on and so on.. Never ends once you start. |

Bilstein, Bilstein, Bilstein...... I've had my 7100's on for about a month now and they work great with the combo of RTE springs. Even w/ 33's the ride is just as good as stock if not better. I know, they are pricey, but I will never have to buy shocks for my truck ever again. Mike |

Some of you people and your endless "Go to Google!" comments are getting old. Sure google is neat. But isn't this the place to ask, seeing as how it is a Rover specific site not a 'corporate site' gearing towards selling their own product? I've been emailing back and forth with Ho (moderator of this site and owner of EE) and he has been very informative and helpful in my decision. Try him. |

I said try google after the following post, "if the OME shocks are the best then let me know a price and a place to order them from" ...there is a certain time when to ask questions, asking where to buy something that is available from nearly every 4WD store in US is not one of them. Under Resources - Vendors is a great place to look. A question asking if something cost too much or asking if something is a great buy or a good deal would never be criticized...Some things just take a little bit of effort. |

You can go with Bilstein 6100's for about $120 a piece. Cheaper than the 7100's and they are rebuildable as well. |

I'm ordering my springs from www.northwestparts.com this week. Check out the thread in the archives called "NW Parts Green Benders - 3" lift" There is some pics of Todd's D1 with the 3" springs. Cheers, Shawn |

sorry to sound like a ignant newbie but I must know: will green benders fit on a red truck?...and if I put them on will the yellow shocks match them?...arent they suposed to be color coded to be a matched set? did a search on google and it was no help. |

...I believe you can get the Green Benders in any color you want. They are $200 a set in like the first several sizes 1", 2", 3"+ (ie: can't get the 7" lift springs for $200). I'm going to order the 2" springs this week...not the 3" because of GA. state laws and possible driveline issues and I don't want to have to change $1,000 in parts for an extra inch considering my stock springs are sagging and a 2" lift will raise my truck at least 3.5" if not 4". |

R. B. Bailey (Rover50987) mentioned he was getting the 2" from NWP last week on his D1. (I didn't ask what colour he was getting them painted) I'm leaning towards a nice semi-gloss cranberry using a sponge on application myself. |
